Which I knew in advance.

But damn, did she look good naked…

I openedthe condo door and my ears and nose were suddenly taken for a ride.

I actually thought I entered the wrong condo.

My nose twinged and tingled.

I blinked a few times as my eyes joined the party.

Smoke? Do I see smoke? Is my condo on fire?

My ears were beat up by the sound of some pop music blaring.

Some nasally woman singing about a boy who broke her heart one summer but she was going to move on. She was actually already hooking up with that guy’s best friend.

All of that packed into one verse.

The smell was smokey and bitter.

Incense.

I dropped my gym bag and wandered into the living room and could not believe my eyes.

The couch?

Moved.

The chair?

Pushed back against the wall.

Coffee table?

Pushed up against the couch.

That left the living room floor wide open, and that’s where Fiona was.

Sitting on a small stool.

Where the hell did she get that from?

In front of her?

An easel!

Where the hell did she get an easel from? Or paint? Or paintbrushes…?

Fiona opened her mouth to sing, then looked right at me.

Her face exploded into three shades of red.

She put her paintbrush down and grabbed her phone to turn down the music.

“Hey,” I said.

“Riff,” she said. “Hey. Hi. Um…”
