We were those kind of people now…

It was no surprise when someone opened their door just a little to sneak a peek.

I looked and the door shut.

“We have an audience now,” I said. “Still want to do this out here?”

“Do what, Fi? I walked away. I’m going to catch my breath a little. You go back to your painting and your pretend.”

“Wow, you are a big, fat dick,” I said.

Two more doors opened a little.

A third opened all the way.

A woman stood there, staring.

“Anything else you want to add?” I called out to Riff. “Everyone is watching us now.”

Riff looked around and started to shake his head.

This was bad. I knew this was bad. But that damn defiant blood pumping through my body didn’t care one bit at all.

Riff stopped moving away from me. Finally.

He hurried toward me. “Are you insane, Fi? Do you want Remi to find out about this?”

“I don’t know, Riff. I don’t know if I care at all. How’s that for an answer?”

Riff looked around.

Now there were three doors fully open.

It was obvious everyone wanted to make sure nothing bad was happening or would happen.

All it took was one phone call just out of precaution which would have the police here. Which would have Riff and I making full statements. Which would expose us for sure.

It all crashed down on me hard and I grabbed for Riff’s shirt.

“Um…”

“Oh, fuck,” Riff whispered.

He looked around and gave a wave.

“All is well here,” he announced. “We’re practicing for a local play. That’s all. Working on our lines.”

“Believable, right?” I called out.

Riff and I looked at each other again and I felt ready to explode with laughter.

Riff grabbed me by the hips and pulled at me.

Someone behind me stepped out of their condo, phone in hand.

Oh… fuck… no…

If she starts recording…
