The side effect of fooling around with Remi’s sister.

That thought did make me smile.

In the kitchen I found Fiona heating up leftover pizza.

Sitting on the counter, smiling at me.

I had the urge to tell her she looked beautiful.

But I didn’t want to overstep anything.

And after everything that happened yesterday…

The microwave beeped and she jumped off the counter.

She got her pizza and breezed right by me.

I flipped open the pizza box and went for a little college breakfast.

Two slices of cold pizza and a cold beer.

That was how I survived way back when.

Fiona still had the music playing.

Not too loud. But loud enough that it went through my ears like icepicks.

I went into the living room and sat on my couch that was pushed up against the wall.

Fiona continued to paint.

She paused a couple times to look back at me.

I nodded each time.

Another song started to play.

Another singer crying about some guy that hurt her feelings.

I couldn’t take it anymore.

“Can you turn this down?” I called out.

Fiona stopped painting and turned all the way around to face me.

Her feet up on the stool.

“It’s just… draining,” I said. “All they do is whine. Get over it.”

“You want me to put on some heavy metal?” Fiona asked. “Some death metal stuff? Screaming about Satan and all that?”

“It would be much better than this trash music.”

Fiona reached for her phone.

And she turned the volume up.

She spun back around and started to wiggle her shoulders and hips.
