She pulled at me.
“Inside the room! Now!”
As I walked back into the hotel room, I looked at the young man. “Don’t vacuum outside my door ever again. Got it?”
“Got it,” he said.
Anna pushed me into the room and closed the door.
“What is wrong with you?” she yelled.
“That noise. Just… driving me nuts…”
“No,” she said. She got in front of me. She pushed at me. “It wasn’t that at all. This is what I’m talking about. You need to look inside yourself and figure out what makes this happen. Just because I was asking you tough questions you think you can go attack someone?”
“I didn’t attack anyone. I attacked a vacuum cleaner.”
“Repeat that sentence again, Joe. As many times as you need to. I can’t be here anymore.”
Anna reached for the door and I placed my hand to it.
Standing right behind her.
“Joe, I’m not going to play games with you,” she said.
“I’ll tell you what it is,” I said.
Anna turned.
“You want to know what has me so pissed off all the time? What eats me alive every day of my life?”
Anna nodded.
I swallowed hard.
I looked into her beautiful eyes.
And I finally told the truth.
“I’m pissed off all the time… because of losing you.”
Chapter Twenty-Two
ANNA
There wasno disagreement between us. In silence, I removed myself from the situation and from Joe’s hotel room.
The clearest truth I had heard from him yet, and I left the hotel room.
As soon as the door clicked shut behind me, I jumped and let out a small gasp.
Wait! What am I doing?
I asked him to be honest with me.
And he was honest with me.
