“How so?”
“I’m supposed to be here as the person helping you.”
“That’s when Dr. Autumn is here. I don’t see Dr. Autumn.”
“No? Then what do you see, Joe?”
The corners of her lips fluttered a little.
Almost a flirty smile.
Fucking hell, she’s flirting. She might not even realize it. She hasn’t been touched and tasted in so long.
I didn’t want to picture it, but I thought about her ex on top of her.
That fucking loud mouthed, limp dick loser.
Slamming his soft stick against her body. Nothing happening.
I reached for another small bottle of booze.
I grabbed two.
One whiskey. One vodka.
I tossed the vodka one to Anna.
“A toast?” I asked.
“I’m afraid to ask for what.”
I moved closer to Anna.
“Hold your drink out,” I said.
I twisted off the little plastic cap and tossed it over my shoulder.
I did the same to mine.
“Cheers to hot water,” I said.
Anna smiled.
Fully smiled.
The most beautiful smile I’d ever seen in my life.
“Cheers to hot water, Joe,” Anna replied.
We touched our little plastic bottles together.
The water still ran in the bathroom.
I didn’t care.
It wasn’t my water bill to worry about. Or my heating bill.
I just wanted Anna to stand there forever.
