I had no clue why I decided to ask Atlas that.

I didn’t care about his sleep schedule.

I didn’t care about a damn thing.

Except maybe finding my way back to Anna.

That kiss wasn’t enough.

That was a tease.

Just like her reflection in the mirror.

The left side of her body - back and front.

“Are we done talking now?” Atlas asked me.

That guy was as miserable as me.

Which made us work well together on the ice.

The biggest, strongest, smartest defensemen in the league.

And he was out there alone.

Dealing with players off the bench.

I touched my jaw.

“Stick around,” Sebastian said. “You belong here, Joe. You’ll be back on the ice soon enough. I know it.”

“No offense, Sebastian,” I said, “but you don’t know a fucking thing.”

I walked away and spotted the treadmills.

I had no interest in running in place.

But I had to do something.

It didn’t help matters either when Anna texted me.

Good morning, Joe. Wanted to check on availability to talk today.

I pictured Anna sitting up in her bed, maybe naked or at least half naked, texting me. Biting her bottom lip. Trying to be all professional.

As though I hadn’t been eye fucking her last night.

As though I didn’t stand at the bathroom sink and pull at my cock like I was trying to start a lawnmower.

As though I didn’t show up to her hotel room and kiss her.

I got on the treadmill, planning on running for a few minutes to get my heart pumping a little.

Ten miles later, the rest of the guys were leaving the gym to get showered and go to their meetings about the game tonight.

I could have joined them.

I didn’t.
