She’s nervous to be near me.

She should be nervous to be near me.

That fucking kiss…

“Joe,” she said. “We need to talk.”

“Do we?” I asked.

She nodded. “Yes. We do.”

I stood up and wiped down the bench covered in my sweat.

I moved closer to Anna.

I stunk like hell but didn’t care.

“Is this where I’m supposed to talk first?” I asked.

“You could if you’d like,” she said.

“Listen, Anna, I get why you’re here. In this room. In this hotel. With the team. I requested it. I demanded it. I wanted to get under your skin. And it worked. But we both know what’s really going on here. You can take your notes. You can text me. You can even call if you want. But I think we both know if we’re this close… in a place like this…?”

“I was just going to ask you about the hockey games,” Anna said. “Get your feel of watching the team lose. Ask some questions about your mindset on and off the ice. To help you realize when the game is over, leave it there.”

I curled my lip. “What?”

“I have a job to do, Joe. I’m being paid to be here. This isn’t some-”

It all washed over me again.

My right hand touched the back of her neck.

My mouth moved down to hers.

I stole the rest of her words with a sweeping kiss.

She didn’t push me away. She didn’t resist.

She melted into me.

Her right hand touched my stomach, pressing my sweaty shirt against my sweaty skin.

She exhaled a long breath through her nose.

I kissed her again. And again.

I kissed her hard.

My fingers started to move up into her hair.

My intentions…

Oh, my fucking intentions.

An echoing thud hit somewhere outside the gym.

But it was enough for the both of us to break away from one another.
