Hey, Shrink Doc. Here’s the deal. I went out for a few drinks and I was in a bad mood. Why was I in a bad mood? Why does it matter? People can be happy, mean, whatever. There was an obnoxious drunk who wouldn’t shut up. So I did him and the rest of the bar a favor. I tossed him through a window. The way I see it? I gave this guy a story to tell for life. He could tell all his buddies and all the women he meets how he took on a hockey player and got thrown through a window. Now, let’s be real here. The guy didn’t die. He’s not even that hurt. He’s not pressing charges. I’m paying for a new window for the bar. I’ve handled my side of this. So why am I here?

I paced the office.

The smell of leather and wood recently cleaned with fake lemon cleaner hung in the air.

No windows in this office.

Just the soft glow of a single light bulb in a lamp on the empty desk.

Above my head there were larger, fluorescent lights, turned off.

Behind me, the door finally opened.

I stood with my back to the shrink.

Every muscle tightened in my body.

My hands slowed tightened into fists.

I couldn’t believe I had to do this.

“Let me start by saying this is a complete fucking joke,” I said.

I turned, ready to take on whoever stood in front of me.

When I saw who it was, I felt all the color drain from my face.

My muscles instantly turned into rubber.

I caught myself blinking over and over as she stood there, shutting the door behind her.

I noticed the way her cheeks flushed just a little.

She stared at me with forced confidence.

She’s the shrink?

Who wasshe?

She was Anna.

She was officially the only woman to ever break my heart.

Chapter Four

ANNA

The moment came and went.

Now I stood close - but not too close - to Joe.

My Joe.

Well, not my Joe anymore.

Not my Joe since a long time ago.

I held my composure as I shut the door and I walked to a comfortable looking leather chair.
