But this situation? Her knowing?

My stupid idea now felt like more of a nightmare.

Oh, and to make matters worse?

I had a text message from Joe… saying he needed to see me professionally, right away.

Chapter Thirty-One

JOE

I satin an uncomfortable chair while Anna sat on the other side of her desk.

Obvious she intended on keeping her distance from me.

“Go ahead,” she said with a nod.

“With?” I asked.

“Joe. You texted me. Something happened.”

“Atlas and I got into at practice. Coach Denny got pissed and sent me packing. I think everyone is just on edge. You know we’re the worst team in the league, right? Record-wise, I mean. We have a great team. It’s just taking a while to get things put into place to make a run.”

“What does that have to do with…?”

“Well, missing me is missing a piece of the team.”

“So you think everyone is stressed?”

“On edge. As I said.” I leaned toward the desk and knocked on it. “Solid desk. Strong. Sturdy.”

Anna lifted an eyebrow. “Joe. What happened with Atlas?”

“Pushing and shoving. We talked it out afterwards.” I stood up and pressed my hands to the desk. “Think this can withstand us, Anna?”

Her cheeks flushed and she swallowed hard. “When you say…pushing and shoving…”

“Listen to me,” I said. “I was amped up to be back on the ice. Shit happens. We got tangled up and then kicked off the ice. In the locker room, we talked it out. Atlas told me he was tired from his baby being up a lot. See? Nothing to worry about.”

“Yet you were sent here,” Anna said.

I took a deep breath and began to walk around Anna’s desk.

She stood up and moved away from me.

“Are you really trying to get away from me?” I asked.

Anna flickered a smile and then took off.

I chased her around the desk and grabbed her by the hips.

“Joe,” she purred. “This is my office.”

“I know, baby,” I said as I pulled her against me.

My right hand slid around and down between her legs.

Pressing tight and hard against her dress pants.
