Hard enough to knock over a frame of Bobby holding a shark with his two bare hands from a fishing trip.
Bobby stood behind his tall chair and stared at me.
“Tell me something,” I said. “That fucking chair. How much did it cost?”
“It’s top of the line,” Bobby said. “Orthopedic. Does everything for my back.”
“Ever think of just dropping sixty pounds?”
“Never.”
“Does the chair have little hands too?”
“For massaging?”
I made anOwith my left hand and stroked the air. “To jerk you off.”
“What the hell, Joe?” Bobby asked.
“You’re offended over that?”
“I’m offended you saidlittle hands. If this chair did jerk me off,little hands? No. That wouldn’t work. They’d need to be big hands. How do you think I get away with looking the way I do?”
“Shit. Put that on the list of things I never needed to know about my agent.”
“Hung like a horse,” Bobby said with a wink.
“Congratulations,” another voice said.

Bobby’s face dropped.
I took my feet off the desk and stood up.
I turned to see Ellen Verwert entering Bobby’s office.
The owner of theSOLA Empire.
The person who would decide if I was going to be kicked off the team or not.
Ellen Verwert knew her power.
The world gave her husband - Oscar - all the credit for the team, but the reality was that Ellen handled the team. She didn’t need the spotlight either.
Being called into my agent’s office to have the owner of the team meet me felt eerily similar to being in school and having my name called to visit the principal’s office.
Not that I didn’t deserve the meeting.
“You threw a man through a window,” Ellen said, getting right to the point.
I touched my chin, trying to think of a clever way to explain what I did.
“He introduced him to an alternative exit from the bar,” Bobby said.
Ellen pointed at Bobby. “I don’t need your slick, car salesman bullshit. This is between me and Joe.”
“I represent my client in every situation he finds himself in,” Bobby said. “And if this takes a turn, I will advise him to stop talking and call his lawyer. Is that what you want?”
