That’s when I swung.
Not hard enough to knock Rome out.
Or even hurt him that much.
I used my left hand too.
The punch landed against his jaw and bottom lip.
The corner of his lip started to bleed right away.
“You understand?” I asked.
“Got it, man,” he said with a smile. “As if I would say anything either way.”
“Just had to be sure. Now get yourfriendand get out of here.”
“Planning on some shower fun of your own?”
I made a fist with my right hand and Rome stepped back.
He let out a laugh as he walked away. Then he called for Shayna.
His voice echoed. Then came hers.
After a few quiet seconds, I heard them both giggling.
Then it quieted down for good.
Meaning they were gone.
Meaning I was alone.
But not exactly alone at all.
I turned and looked at the locker room door.
When I opened it, Anna stood right there.
Her face as pale as when she exited the locker room.
“How fucked are we?” she whispered.
My hands gravitated to her face, gently holding her, my thumbs sliding across her cheeks.
“I’ve never stopped loving you either, Anna,” I confessed. “I love you right now. I’m… I’m in love with you right now.”
And there it was – the biggest truth of my entire life spoke out loud.
She pulledmy hands from her face.
I grabbed her waist and pulled her against me.
She made a little jumping move and I refused to let it go to waste.
I picked her up and backed up into the locker room.
I found the closest wall and pinned her against it.
