No way Joe would be that stubborn and stupid to leave.

By the time I turned around to sit back down, the office door shut.

Joe actually left… with my business card on the floor.

Steven satdown on the couch next to me and placed his hand flat on my notebook.

I looked at him and he gave methe eyes.

I smiled.

I saw myself throwing all my work stuff across the apartment and tearing my clothes off so fast you would have sworn there was a deadly spider hidden in them somewhere.

It had been a long day for both of us.

I could see it in his face.

And his eyes…

“Care to talk?” I whispered.

“To you? Never.”

“Because you know I’ll see through everything, right?”

He placed his head down to my chest.

I looked up at the ceiling and took a deep breath.

Some days my job felt a little bit routine.

Which meant when I left my office, I left everything behind.

Other days I felt like the weight of the world rested on my shoulders.

And no, it has nothing to do with Joe.

Or seeing Joe.

Or arguing with Joe.

The reality was that if and when things worked out with Joe, this would serve as a huge opportunity for me to expand my practice, knowledge and everything else.

A step forward in my career.

And, sure, some closure for the past.

Steven nuzzled his face into my chest and growled for a second.

Then he popped back and popped up.

I stared up at him.

“I’ve got to go.”

“What?” I asked.

“There’s a thing.”
