“I will.”

“You need a ticket to get on this bus, buddy,” the driver said.

I looked back at the driver. “Shut up for a second. We’re having a moment.”

“Wait a second,” the driver said. He pointed at Joe. “I know you. I know who you are.”

“Fan of hockey?” Joe asked.

“Fan of hockey, sure,” the driver said. “But you’re really screwing over the team this season. What’s the matter with you? You make all that money and you can’t play the game? You should try getting a job like I have!”

“You’re an ignorant asshole,” I said to the driver.

“What did you just say to me?”

Joe climbed up, grabbed me and pulled me out of the bus.

“Hey, fuck you!” I yelled to the driver.

“You’re out of control, Anna,” Joe said as he laughed.

He picked me up off my feet and walked me away from the bus.

When he put me down, I made fists and hit his chest.

“So that’s it?” I asked. “That was the big plan?”

“Hey. We did it. We changed it. You were going to get off that bus. And I was going to stop you from leaving. We both wanted the same thing.”

“It’s all I’ve ever wanted, Joe,” I said.

“You were ready to attack that bus driver.”

“He had no right making comments like that to you.”

“He probably gambles on the games and is pissed at me for not playing,” Joe said.

“Yeah… well…”

Joe touched my face.

He kissed me.

My mind screamed -finally!

He rested his forehead to mine. “There. That better?”

“I don’t know, Joe.”

“I love you, Anna. I’ve loved you all these years. And I’ll love you with all the years I have left.”

“I know that. I don’t just believe you, Joe. I feel it. I feel the exact same thing.”

“I’m glad you got off that bus.”

“You scared me,” I whispered.

“I’ll always be there for you, baby.”
