Again, two souls being pulled in opposite directions.
I told her not to leave town until we talked again.
She agreed to it.
Which meant I was going to show up, sweep her off her feet, and go for our memory ride.
And once she wore the engagement ring, I would take her anywhere she wanted.
“Anywhere she wanted,” I whispered to myself.
Reality seeped back in and I walked to the door and opened it.
It was now ten minutes past the time Anna and I were supposed to talk.
I looked back at the two empty chairs.
I pulled into the parking lot just a few seconds too late.
My piece of crap truck decided to stall out while I was going about fifty.
I had to pull to the side of the road and give the truck a minute to figure its shit out.
Which it did.
I got the truck running in a few minutes and drove even faster.
As I climbed out of the truck in the parking lot, I saw a bus.
The bus.
Cruising away in the distance.
I looked around the parking lot.
“Anna?” I asked.
I waited to see her appear.
With some bags.
Looking worried yet in love with me.
Hell, I would skip the memory ride and just propose here.
I walked around the parking lot, in between all the cars.
My heart was already broken and I knew Anna was already gone.
I refused to believe it though.
I refused…
I walked out of the office and shut the door behind me.
It felt like before.
“Anna stood me up,” I said. “Again.”
