Joe gave the cockiest smirk I’d ever seen on a person.
He strutted to the office door and looked back.
“If you need help moving out of your place…”

I waited a few seconds before checking to see if Joe was really leaving or not.

A second later I saw her running down the sidewalk toward the door.
She ripped it open, pulled the door shut, and locked it.
“Where were you?” I asked.
“Is he still here? The super sexy hockey player who I want to motorboat me?”
“Joe is gone. So is Ellen.”
“So it’s just us?”
“Yes. Why?”
“Good,” Bethany said. She ran to me and grabbed my arm. “While all hell was breaking loose here, Herbert called looking for you. I lied and said you were in a session.”
“Okay?”
“He had lawyers up there, Anna,” Bethany said. “He was going to show up here with lawyers to try and scare you.”
“How…?”
“Listen. I’m not blind here. There’s a lot going on. Sounds like you and Steven are done. Finally. Sorry. I hate him. Sorry again. Anyway, when the sexy hockey player who could have my ass for dinner went into your office, I felt the tension. I got off the phone with Herbert and went for a walk. That’s when I saw him up at the corner. He’s got lawyers and it seems like he’s showing up everywhere to act like a tough guy. Herbert saw me and I told him you were busy all day. He said he would show up anyway. So I told him if she shows up that I was going to stick his penis into the paper shredder.”
“You said that to my landlord?”
“I’m all fired up today,” Bethany said. “I wanted to smack Steven for the way he acted. And I wish that hockey player would bend me over his knee and smack my ass. I’m all confused. I’m sorry. Okay?”
“Wow,” I said. “Okay. Bethany. Calm down. That’s first. Deep breaths. Calm down. Whatever Herbert is planning, I’ll deal with it. Okay? The next thing we need to do is go through my schedule and make some changes. I need some days open. And I hate doing that, but I have to.”
“Are you going somewhere?”
“I’m traveling with theSOLA Empire.”
Bethany’s jaw dropped.
I thought little hearts were going to jump from her eyes.
What was business to me was nothing but a sex-filled romp in her mind with Joe.
There was no way Joe and I were going to have sex on this road trip.
