“Here you go, sugar,” she said. “I’m Shayna. Just in case you need anything. At all.”

She gave me a smile that told the rest of the night.

If I wanted that kind of night.

My eyes moved back to the television screen.

Sebastian scored a minute later.

Tie game.

“Like it matters. They fucking suck!”

The voice boomed across the bar.

I moved my eyes for a split second.

Some drunk moron with his mouth hanging open stared at the screen.

“I fucking hate this team,” he announced. “They’ll never matter. They’ll never win. Purse trash. Hey, sweetie. Why don’t we turn something else on, huh? Put on some golf.”

Shayna glanced at me.

I didn’t say a word. Or make a move.

“Did you hear me? Sweetie. Get your little, tight ass over here.”

The guy cackled.

“No golf,” I said.

“Who said that?”

“I said it,” I said. “No golf.”

“Just who the fuck are you, buddy?”

I looked across the bar at the guy.

The booze told him he was bigger than he was. And that he wanted to fight me.

“It’s okay,” Shayna said. “We’re going to leave the hockey game on, Ralphie. You know that.”

“Watch this shit?”Ralphieasked.

“Better quiet down over there,” I said.

“Oh, that’s it. I’m coming over there to have a talk with you, buddy.”

I turned and waited.

My thoughts raced.

I pictured myself throwing this Ralphie guy right through the front window.

Why not, right? That was mythingnow.

Ralphie turned the last corner of the bar.
