He hesitates, his jaw tense as he considers my words. Finally, he nods, then leans down and gives me another kiss. I taste myself on his tongue, and it’s all I can do not to drag him down on top of me.

Opening the door, Slash invites Brick inside. The Cascade Reapers’ president steps into the room, his eyes darting between us, an understanding nod acknowledging our disheveled appearances. “Sorry to interrupt,” he says gruffly, “but we need to talk about our next move.”

I try to ignore my burning cheeks as Slash leads us to the small sitting area in the room, where we take our seats. Brick launches into the conversation, detailing the club’s plan to deal with the Iron Serpents and keep me safe. I listen intently, my heart going a mile a minute as the gravity of the situation sinks in.

Throughout the discussion, Slash’s hand remains on my knee, a comforting presence that keeps me grounded. I’m grateful for his support and the unyielding loyalty of the Cascade Reapers, but it’s still difficult to accept that my life has been turned upside down so thoroughly. It’s surreal.

With the bones of the plan hammered out, Slash, Brick, and I make our way to the parking lot, where the rest of the Cascade Reapers are waiting. They all climb onto their motorcycles, with me behind Slash, and the entire crew roars to life, setting off for a location deep within the forest where we can discuss our plans without fear of being overheard.

The ride is exhilarating, with the wind whipping around us as we follow the winding roads into the dense, tree-lined wilderness. Once we reach our destination, the bikers form a loose circle, and Brick takes center stage, addressing the group with a commanding presence.

As the discussion progresses, various members of the MC offer their opinions and ideas for dealing with the Iron Serpents. Vegas, a large, muscular biker with a shaved head and a thick beard, steps forward with a suggestion that immediately sends a chill down my spine.

“Why don’t we use Sadie as bait?” he proposes, his eyes narrowing as he gauges the reactions of his fellow bikers. “Hang on,” he says, motioning for the others to pipe down when they start protesting. “She wouldn’t get hurt. We could set up an ambush, lure the Serpents in, and take them out. It’s the perfect way to end this quickly and protect her.”

A low murmur ripples through the group, but Slash’s reaction is anything but approving. He whirls on Vegas, his face contorted with rage. “The fuck we will,” he growls, his voice dangerously low.

Vegas sneers, taking a step toward Slash. “You’re too soft, brother. You’ve been balls deep in that pussy for a week and suddenly you’re a marshmallow?”

When Slash lands a vicious blow to Vegas’s jaw, I’ve seen enough. I push through the circle of onlookers, my heart racing with a mix of fear and determination. As I step between the two men, I force them to break apart, my hands on their chests, pushing them away from each other.

“Stop it!” I shout, my voice cracking with emotion. “This isn’t helping anyone!”

Both men, breathing heavily, stare at me in surprise. I take a deep breath, knowing that what I’m about to say might change everything. “Look, I don’t want to be the bait, but if it’s the only way to end this, then I’ll do it. I trust you, Slash, and the rest of the Reapers to keep me safe.”

Slash’s eyes widen in shock, and he shakes his head vehemently. “No, Sadie, I can’t let you do that. It’s too dangerous.”

But I stand my ground, meeting his gaze. “I’m not going to stand on the sidelines and watch you all go to bat for me. I want to help. I need to do this.”

The silence that follows is thick with tension. Slash studies my face, the conflict evident in his eyes. At last, he gives a reluctant nod, running his thumbs across my cheeks softly. Then his face hardens again and he faces his brothers. “We do this on my terms, you fuckers understand that? We keep her safe, no matter what.”

I nod in agreement, relieved that they’ve reached a consensus. The rest of the MC members murmur their approval, and Brick steps forward to discuss the next steps with Slash and a couple of others.

CHAPTER11

Slash

I can’t shakethe feeling of dread gnawing at me. But she’s made her choice, and if she’s willing to put her life on the line, I have to make sure the plan is foolproof. I call the MC together to iron out the details.

“We need to make it look like Sadie’s alone and vulnerable,” Brick says, his voice serious. “That’ll give the Iron Serpents the perfect opportunity to come after her, and we’ll be ready to spring the trap.”

I nod, clenching my fists. The thought of leaving Sadie exposed like that makes my blood boil, but I know it’s necessary if we’re going to take down Viper and his gang. We have to play our cards right and make them think they have the upper hand.

Vegas, his eye bruised from our earlier scuffle, chimes in. “We should use one of our safe houses. We’ll put Sadie in there and make it seem like there are only a couple of us on watch. The Serpents won’t be able to resist.”

I nod again, my jaw tight. “Fine, but we need eyes on her at all times. I want a team inside the house with her and another one outside, hidden and ready to strike. And I want constant communication between the teams.”

Brick agrees, and we spend the next hour working out the finer details. We assign roles to each MC member, making sure everyone knows their part. The Cascade Reapers are a well-oiled machine, and I have faith in our ability to execute this plan. But it doesn’t make the gnawing worry in my gut any less persistent.

As we finalize the plan, Sadie sits nearby, listening intently. She seems brave, determined to do her part, but I can see the flicker of fear in her eyes.

I slip away from the others and crouch in front of her, taking her face in my hands. “You don’t have to do this,” I tell her. “Honestly, I really wish you wouldn’t.” She shakes her head and plants a kiss on my temple. “No,” she says. I groan. “Stubborn girl,” I say. “But it will never be too late to back out. Even if we’re out there and set up and they’re pulling up, you say the word and I’ll get you out of there. Okay?”

Later that night, we put the plan into motion. Sadie rides with me, and Ghost and Shark are flanking us. The safehouse is a little cabin in the woods, deliberately chosen for its remote location and lack of neighbors, making it a perfect place for a trap.

As we leave the motel, I notice something out of the corner of my eye—a vehicle, parked at a distance, partially hidden by the tree line. My heart kicks up a notch. I know it’s one of the Serpents’ spies. We were counting on it.
