I take a step back not trusting the direction of my own thoughts.

Her eyes round, and her mouth falls open before it snaps shut. She mumbles thank you again, and we leave it that.

I know if it wasn't Aurora that Vulcan abducted, I wouldn't have moved a muscle. She has figured that out too, which explains the intense look she's giving me. For now, she has no option but to go with what I said.

“What’s your plan?”

“About what?”

“Me.”

I remain silent. Not willing to disclose what I really want to do with her…to her.

Aurora swallows as if reading my thoughts. “What do you have in mind? You must have thought of something before you saved me.”

I shrug. “It’s simple. I wanted to get you out of danger, then help you lay low until all the fire has died down. If you have to stay here, fine. If you want to go somewhere else, it’s fine too. But until we know Vulcan’s plans, you’ll need to be very careful.”

“It looks like I’m stuck with you.”

“It’s not such a bad thing if you think about it. Free food, a roof over your head, a chance to share space with one of the hottest guys in town.”

Aurora turns her nose up, and the scrunch-up look on her face cracks me up. We share a laugh, and the tension eases a little.

“For real, though. You don’t have anything to worry about.”

“What about my dad?”

“I have my men looking into it.”

“What will I owe you for all of this chivalry?”

“Nothing.”

She stares at me, and I can tell she doesn’t believe me. I break the silence needing to get from under her inquiring gaze.

“Are you sure you don’t wanna eat anything?”

“I’m sure.”

"Suit yourself. I'll be back," I hand her the remote controller and walk away from the living room. I change out of my hoodie and into a t-shirt and sweatpants and return to find Aurora fiddling with her phone. She's not looking up yet, her face glued to the bright screen. My eyes dart to her proportionate boobs and shapely body. Right away, my cock stiffens.

Now is not the time, buddy.

Aurora looks up from her phone. “I called my cousin. I don’t want her to worry.”

“That’s good to hear. How are you doing with all of this?”

“It all is overwhelming. The hotel, Jeff’s gambling, and now this. I just…” A shadow of darkness crosses Aurora's face. “I honestly just don’t know anymore.”

I can hardly say anything to make her feel better. In truth, I’m part of the problem. But I thought the threat of Jeff losing his hotel would scare him straight. I didn’t stop to think about how Aurora would fair in all of this. But a debt is a debt.

“Is there some place I can lay down? I’m exhausted.”

“Yeah, come on.” I lead the way to a room at the end of a hallway and open the door to let her in. “Everything you need is in there, and if there’s something else you want, just call me.”

She leans forward and peeks inside. “Your home is beautiful, Tristano. And nothing like I’d expect.”

“You thought about my home?” I can tell I’ve caught her off guard.
