"Okay. Just promise you’ll fix things with him."

"I will. What did Jeff say?"

Aurora shrugs. "Oh, nothing. He was happy to hear I'm okay, but he wanted to know my location. I didn’t tell him."

"Good," I mutter.

"Are you sure things are gonna be fine with Frank?"

"Yeah, I'll handle that."

Aurora heaves a relieved sigh and leans in for a hug. I wrap my arms around her, enjoying the warmth of her breath against my neck. It's reassuring to hear that we've settled some of the problems around us.

I kiss her left cheek and trail my lips to her earlobe. She wiggles in my arms.

“Did he say anything about why they released him?”

“He said he made an ‘arrangement,’" she air quotes.

“Do you believe him?”

She shrugs. “It seems odd that they went from beating down his door to him being back home.”

I pull Aurora closer and take her lips in mine. “I’ll look into it.”

AURORA

Tristano has been drivingfor the past half hour, but I'm clueless about where we're heading. I like surprises, but not when I'm hiding from gun-toting loan sharks who are after my life. Of course, I trust Tristano, but I still can't stop being curious.

"You haven't said where we’re going?" I say quietly. Tristano whips his head toward me with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"Relax,tesoro. You'll find out in a bit."

I nod slowly and set my elbow on the window, peering at the shops and apartments as the car zooms down the road. My mind rushes back to the result of the test strip I got three days back. Two lines. I’m pregnant for Tristano Baldi.

It shouldn’t be surprising, given how Tristano and I have fucked like bunnies since I moved in with him. But I’m still stunned by the fact that I’m already carrying his baby already. It all happened in a blur, the steamy sex, and now a missed period.

I know Tristano loves me, but how do I know he wants to be a father? I don't regret making love with Tristano. As a matter of fact, I look forward to more exciting moments in his arms. But a pregnancy brings a level of complication I’m not sure I can handle.

He reaches for my hand, staring into my eyes. "Do you think I'm about to betray you?"

"No, I trust you. Plus, the only way to get your money from my father is to hold onto me."

"You know that's not why I rescued you. You mean more to me than the money Jeff owes us."

I give a half nod. "Right."

Tristano drives into a street lined with beautiful homes. Ahead there’s a stretch of sand, and I can’t see the water, but I can smell the ocean. A beach is nearby.

"Here we are." Tristano parks outside a white two-story house. He opens the door for me and offers a hand to help me out. I allow my eyes to journey across the intricate landscape in front of a white mansion house.

"Where are we?"

“My cottage.” He grabs my hand. "Come find out."

As we approach the front door, my mind flashes back to Vulcan's defiant face. Maybe he's waiting behind those white walls to get me. I know that's impossible, but I can't stop this fear that grips me as we get closer to the building.
