“I don’t believe you because Nicoli came by the club looking for you.”

Fuck. “I promise to tell you everything when the coast is clear.”

He stares at me and grunts. “Fine.”

My second fine tonight.

He drops to the couch, and I groan. “What are you doing? You should get going before the storm rolls in.”

"I need to camp out on your couch. I got too many bitches in my house."

There is no way Frank can stay here without seeing or hearing Aurora.

"You don't look happy. Talk to me, bro."

"How many times will you ask me that? Everything is fine."

Frank doesn't look convinced, but I can do nothing about that. There's an awkward silence in the living room. Frank and I stare at each other, no words exchanged.

The thunder growls again. Even if I want Frank to leave, the rain appears to make him stuck here. I shift in the chair and pull out my phone.

Aurora has texted me.Is he gone?

No, baby. It looks like he’ll be here for some time.I drop to the chair.

Damn!

"You had a woman over?"

I look up at Frank. "No? Why?"

He points to the flip-flops next to the couch.

"Oh..."

"It's not Kathy. I left her at the club, so who is it?"

"Just a friend. How the hell did you notice that?"

Frank shrugs and points to the chair, and I turn my head and see a hair tie on the end table.

"Okay," I mumble. "It's nothing, though."

"I'm surprised why you've been hiding a girl from me. How ugly could she look? I won't judge."

The room is silent. Frank expects me to say something, but I keep holding back. I see the hurt look on his face and the sadness in his eyes. At that moment, I want nothing more than to tell him that I have Aurora with me, but he'll never understand so that has to stay hidden.

The problem is I don't know how long I can keep it a secret.

Frank looks away and asks for a drink. I get up and pour some of my best. Tired of the disturbing silence in the room, I bring up the topic of the recent trouble we've had with Vulcan.

A suspicious look crosses Frank's face, but he follows the flow. "We'll keep watching out. I don't think he'll come back at us again unless there's something you know about it that I don't."

The accuracy of that statement makes my heart drop.

"What do you mean?"

"I don't know, man. I just don't understand you anymore."
