“You upset her!” I yell at Frank.

“I don’t bloody care. I want my business and friendship with you intact, and I don’t see how it works with her in the picture.”

I hurry away from Frank and head to Aurora's room to appeal to her. She had packed her things into a holdall by the time I entered the room.

“Where are you going?”

"Home. You've chosen your friend, haven't you?" Her lips tremble, and tears brim in her eyes.

“Tesoro, we can work this out.”

She peers into my eyes for a moment and breezes past me. My thoughts are all over the place. Frank or Aurora? I loved Aurora, but Frank and I have been from way back. I wonder why I can't get both of them.

Aurora has gone ahead of me into the living room. I press a hand to my forehead and hurry after her. She’s almost at the door.

“Aurora, wait...”

She stops when she gets to the door. "Bye, Tristano," and then slams the door behind her.

I try to run over to catch up with her, but Frank holds me back and shakes his head.

"Let her go. Jeff planted her here. I'm sure of it."

I shake myself free from his grip and hurry to the door. Aurora is far gone by the time I get outside. She gets in a taxi, slipping into the backseat without sparing a look in my direction.

I stand at the door and watch as the taxi zooms off into the dark horizon. Lightening flashes again, and the sky rumbles. I turn around and see Frank at the door with a serious look on his face.

"It took my arrival to save you from her. How did she break through your defense?"

"She didn't do anything wrong. I genuinely love her, man. This is crazy."

The rain began, hitting the ground and blowing the wind against my fave. It's like the elements know about my plan to chase after Aurora and decided to work against it.

"Get in, come on," Frank yells.

I hurry into the house and slam the door. Is Aurora safe? I whip out my phone to call her and see a clear message from her.

You chose him, right? Goodbye.

Those words feel like a stab in my heart. I sigh and slip the phone back into my pocket. Right away, I know it's gonna take a hell of an effort to get back with Aurora.

"For tonight, at least. Forget about her. Evaluate your feelings, see if it's real."

I join Frank on the couch and grab the drink. I don't need time to verify my feelings for Aurora. I love her, and that's final. As soon as there's a chance, I'll go after her and let her see she got things wrong. No text or call can convey it the way I want.

Taking sips of the wine, I hear the raindrops splattering on the ceiling. I hope she gets home safely.

Frank curls on the couch and dozes off. On the one hand, I'm happy I've gotten the secret off my chest, but on the other hand, losing Aurora is too much to bear.

"I'll figure something out," I mutter. And I mean it with the whole of my heart.

AURORA

I walkinto the room and shut the door, relaxing my back against the door. I can't see anything because the room is dark. My fingers are too weak to switch on the light.

This is too much for me. I press my palm against my chest because it seems my heart is about to explode. Tristano chose business over me. Right from the taxi, I'd brushed off the tears rolling out of my eyes, hoping they would stop. My inside is boiling, hence the tears. I take off my shoes and switch on the light.
