Chapter 26

EMILY

Thefollowingday,Iwoke to the bright light shining through the windows.

“Uhh,” I say, turning to the other side. “Turn that off.”

“Next time, don’t sleep in my room,” says Felix.

I sit up and give him a weary look. He’s up already, wearing a shirt and a pair of sweatpants.

But his hair is still tousled, and his face is still flushed from sleep.

“I was going to get up,” I say, rubbing my eyes.

He grins. “Yeah, right, sleepyhead. Thought you may like some coffee,” he says, handing me a cup.

I take it as a welcome respite. “Thanks.”

Felix sits down next to me and touches a strand of hair that’s fallen across my face.

His fingertips are so soft that I don’t even realize what they are doing until he’s moved away.

I blush, feeling exposed under his gaze.

“Don’t be embarrassed,” he says, a hint of amusement in his voice.

My cheeks flush even deeper, and I look away, sipping my coffee. He’s looking so good, and I must look like a complete mess.

I mean, I even have my makeup on from the night before. He grabs my chin and turns my face back to him.

“Hey,” he says, his voice low. “I’m not teasing you. I’m just looking at you.”

I stare back at him for a few seconds before nodding. He smiles and leans in, pressing his lips against mine. I melt into him, allowing my arms to wrap around his neck.

“I better brush my teeth,” I mutter, with my eyes still closed and my lips still against his.

He pulls away and starts laughing. “I won’t lie. You should.”

I groan and get out of bed, putting on the dress from the previous night and grabbing my underwear in my hands.

“Back to my room then,” I say, heading for the door.

“Don’t get naughty,” he says. “Remember, try not to run away and do something you ought not to behind my back.”

“I’ll try,” I say.

“Meet me in the kitchen when you’re done,” he says.

I give him a thumbs-up and head back to my room.

I quickly shower, change my clothes, and brush my teeth. I take my time getting ready, knowing he’s waiting for me.

I put on a sundress and sandals and let my hair loose.

When I’m done, I take a deep breath and head towards the kitchen. Felix is there, cooking breakfast.

He turns around and smiles. “Good morning,” he says.
