“I’m not made of glass, you know?”

“I know,” I respond softly. “But you need to rest.”

I glance back at her, taking note of her injuries once more. “Where else does it hurt?”

Emily winces as she tries to sit up, “Everywhere.”

I shake my head, feeling guilty for not being there to protect her.

“I’m sorry, Emily. This shouldn’t have happened to you.”

She looks at me, her eyes softening.

“It’s not your fault, Felix. I shouldn’t have gone out for a run this late at night.”

I nod, but the guilt still lingers. “I’ll make sure whoever did this pays for it.”

We arrive at my mansion, and I carry Emily inside, making sure she’s comfortable in her bedroom before calling for my doctor.

As I wait for the doctor to arrive, I sit next to her, my eyes never leaving her battered body.

When the doctor arrives, Emily hesitates to let him examine her, but I reassure her that he’s one of the best.

After a thorough examination, the doctor confirms that while nothing is broken, Emily has multiple contusions and bruises.

He prescribes some painkillers and a few days of bed rest, warning Emily to take it easy and not exert herself.

“Thank you, doctor,” I say, my hand on Emily’s shoulder. “We’ll make sure she rests.”

As soon as the doctor leaves, I turn my attention back to Emily, who’s looking at me with pleading eyes.

“Please, Felix, it’s late. Go to bed,” she whispers. “I’ve already given you so much trouble. You need some rest.”

I shake my head. “I can’t leave you like this, Emily. I’ll stay here for a while to make sure you’re comfortable.”

I sit down on the edge of her bed and reach out to brush a strand of hair out of her face.

Her eyes close at my touch, and I can see the pain etched on her face.

“Can I help you with anything?” I ask softly.

She nods. “I just need to stop feeling so guilty about giving you all this stress. I’d feel so much better if you went back to your bedroom. I hate feeling so helpless,” she says, her voice barely above a whisper.

I’m surprised that despite all this, she still refuses to accept help.

I lean closer to her, my voice lowering to a whisper.

“Emily, you are not giving me stress or being a burden. I care about you deeply, and seeing you hurt like this hurts me too. Let me help you, please,” I say, gently taking her hand.

She looks at me for a long moment before giving a small nod, her fingers lacing with mine. “Okay,” she murmurs. “Help me.”

I smile softly, relief washing over me as I ease her back onto the pillows.

I tuck the blankets around her and sit down beside her, my hand still holding hers.

We sit there in silence, the only sound the occasional beeping of the machines monitoring her vitals.

After a while, Emily speaks up. “Felix, can I tell you something?”
