"The intruders are being dealt with," Felix says, his voice hard as stone.

"My men are interrogating them now to find out who sent them and why."

His words do little to ease my anxiety. I don't know which version of the truth the Lucchese family knows the truth about me.

It's only a matter of time before they learn I'm a Battaglia, and then I’ll be surrounded by enemies from all sides.

Then, Felix would no longer protect me.

Felix brushes a strand of hair from my face, his touch gentle.

"Try to rest, Emily. You've had a hell of a day."

I nod, forcing a smile. How can I possibly rest knowing we're in danger?

Knowing our child could be used against me as leverage if my true identity is discovered?

"I can't sleep till I know more," I say.

I lie back down and stare at the ceiling, listening to Felix's hushed phone calls with his men.

His grip on my hand is firm and reassuring, but I can feel the tension in his touch. Something isn't right.

After another hour of restless worrying, I glance at Felix.

"What's really going on?"

Felix sighs, raking a hand through his hair.

"I didn't want to worry you, but there's been another attack. It seems the Lucchese family isn't done with us yet."

My heart leaps into my throat. They're coming for us. Coming for the baby. I swallow hard, fighting to keep my expression neutral.

I can't tell Felix the truth. I can't.

"We'll be safe here," Felix says firmly.

"I have my best men guarding the property. No one will get inside."

I nod, forcing a shaky smile.

If only I could believe that.

If only I could be sure our child would be safe.

But I'm not safe as long as the Lucchese family is after me. And this time, I fear they won't stop until they get what they came for - me, dead.

An hour later, I swallow the lump in my throat, my hands trembling under the sheets. I still can't rest. "What did they find out?"

Felix hesitates, then says quietly, "They know you were working undercover, posing as an escort to plant modified financial information. It angered them when you refused to sleep with one of their men. When they started

looking into you, they discovered the false evidence you planted against them."

My heart pounds wildly. They know what I did. What if they continue to investigate further into who I am?

All my carefully laid plans would be unraveled, and then my secrets would be laid bare.

I'm exposed, vulnerable. My child is vulnerable.
