Emily pips her fingers through my hair, kissing my temple.
"Best dinner ever," she says, lips curving into a smile.
I huff out a laugh and lift my head to capture her mouth in a searing kiss.
No one else will ever have her.
Emily is mine, in this life and the next.
I straighten and pull out of her with a wince, offering a hand to help Emily up.
She sways on her feet, thoroughly debauched, and I can't help the surge of pride at being the one to reduce her to this state.
"Let's get you cleaned up," I say, grabbing her dress from where it lies discarded on the floor.
I wipe between her thighs with the silky fabric before helping her step into the dress.
Emily smiles up at me through half-opened eyes, utterly pliant in my hands.
I scoop her into my arms, carrying her upstairs to my bedroom.
The house is silent and dark, my men knowing better than to disturb us.
I lay Emily on the bed, stripping off her dress and tossing it aside.
She's asleep before her head hits the pillow.
I pull the blanket over her nude form, brushing a stray lock of hair from her face.
My gaze roams over her sleeping face, affection warming my chest.
No one has ever gotten under my skin the way Emily has.
I undress and slide under the covers behind her, wrapping an arm around her waist and pressing a kiss to the nape of her neck.
Emily mumbles something unintelligible, snuggling deeper into my embrace.
"I love you," I whisper against her skin.
She doesn't respond.
She's probably fast asleep.
She's the light that cuts through the darkness shrouding my soul.
The mafia life is one of blood and violence, but with Emily by my side, there are still moments of peace.
I close my eyes, her steady breathing lulling me to sleep.
Tomorrow I'll wake up with her in my arms, and that's all that matters.
I wake up to sunlight filtering through the curtains and Emily stirring in my arms.
She rolls over to face me, blinking sleepily.
"Morning," she murmurs, voice husky.
"Morning, tesoro." I brush a stray lock of hair from her face, leaning in to capture her lips in a slow, deep kiss.
