"What do they want with me?"

"Trust me, sweetheart," he replies, chuckling darkly.

"You don't want to know."

I wipe away my tears, feeling anger and dread boiling inside me.

I try to open the door. It's child locked.

There's no way out of this car, and these men clearly have no intention of letting me go.

But I can't just sit here and wait for whatever fate they have in store for me.

"Please," I whisper, my voice barely audible over the sound of the engine.

"Please, where is my mother."

"Dead," he says.

My world comes shattering around me.

I thought they might have lied about that earlier, but now something tells me they're telling the truth.

A sob escapes my mouth.

But their only response is a shared smile that sends shivers down my spine, and I know that my pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

"Let me go," I demand, trying to sound strong despite the fear that threatens to consume me.

"Sorry, sweetheart," the driver sneers, glancing at me through the rearview mirror.

"We can't do that."

"Tell me what's going on!" I shout, desperation creeping into my voice.

The passenger seat enforcer sighs, rolling his eyes.

"Alright, fine. You deserve to know at least that much." He leans forward, turning to face me.

His dark eyes bore into mine, sending a chill down my spine.

"We had to bring you in without alerting the Carlisi Don that you may be in danger."

"Wh-what?" My breath catches in my throat.

"Why would you need to do that?"

"Because, Rosalie," he says, his voice low and dangerous.

"We needed you to come with us willingly. And if you knew the truth, you would have never agreed."

"But why?" I ask, unable to comprehend their motives.

"What do you want with me? What does any of this have to do with the Carlisi Don?"

"Let's just say there are bigger players involved than Felix Carlisi," the driver adds cryptically, his eyes flicking back to the road.

"And we need you to play your part."
