"Enough!" the driver snaps, slamming his hand on the steering wheel.

"You'll do as you're told, and that's final."

I close my eyes, trying to block out the fear that threatens to consume me.

But I know that if I'm going to survive this ordeal, I'll have to be strong.

I'll have to find a way to stand up to the enforcers, Hunter, and whoever else is pulling the strings behind the scenes.

As we drive further away from the life I've built for myself, the city skyline looming in the distance, one thought keeps running through my mind: I won't let them break me.

No matter what it takes, I will fight with everything I have.

"Okay," I say quietly, steeling myself for what lies ahead.

"Take me to Hunter Drucci. But know this: I won't go down without a fight."

The car's engine hums as we speed along the dark, deserted road.

The leather seats stick to my skin, a cold sweat forming on my brow.

I can't stop thinking about what these men are saying - how could they possibly expect me to marry Hunter Drucci?

The thought alone sends shivers down my spine.

"Listen," I say, sounding more confident than I feel.

"I won't marry him. You can tell him that. You can tell whoever you want, but it won't happen."

"Rosalie," the enforcer in the passenger seat drawls, his voice dripping with condescension, "you don't seem to understand your situation here. You don't get a choice."

"Let me be clear," I reply with gritted teeth,

"I would rather die than return to that life."

The minute the words leave my mouth, fear seeps through my bones.

I have a baby in my belly.

Fuck. I shouldn't have - I can't say such things, for what if they go ahead and kill me?

"Such strong words," he scoffs.

"But you should know the consequences of refusing this arrangement. Your family's already lost so much. Do you really want to defy the Don and risk their lives too?"

My heart clenches at the mention of my family.

It's true; I don't want to harm them. My siblings.

But is it fair for me to suffer for the rest of my life, all to protect them?

Isn't there another way?

"Is there no other option?" I ask, my voice barely audible over the tires against the asphalt.

"Can't we find another solution?"

"None that doesn't involve Hunter," the enforcer replies, his tone unyielding.
