Instead, she searches my face as if trying to discern whether this is another one of my impulsive decisions or something deeper, more lasting.

"Are you sure, Felix?" she asks quietly, her voice barely audible over our heartbeats pounding in unison.

"You know marrying me won't erase the danger that follows me… us."

"Nothing worth having comes easy, tesoro," I reply, caressing her cheek with my thumb.

"And you are worth every risk, every battle. I'll protect you, our child, and our family, no matter what it takes."

Tears glisten in her eyes as she leans in, capturing my lips in a tender yet passionate kiss.

It's a promise, a declaration of love, and an acceptance of my proposal, all wrapped into one breathtaking moment.

"Thank you," she murmurs against my mouth, her fingers tangling in my hair.

"I love you too, Felix. I’m so happy. I never wanted to raise a child without a husband."

The weight of our shared future settles on my shoulders as we hold each other, but it fills me with renewed purpose instead of feeling heavy.

Knowing we will have a baby together changes how I see the world.

"Knowing we're going to have a child together has made me realize what truly matters," I confess, my voice thick with emotion.

"Our baby is a gift I never knew I needed until now."

She smiles gently, her eyes shining with love and pride. "I'm so grateful we get to experience this together, Felix."

"Me too," I admit, grinning as a sudden thought strikes me.

"You know, I've always wanted a little girl who could grow up strong, brave, and compassionate, just like her mother.

A female don to lead the family into a new era of peace and prosperity."

"Who says girls can't lead a mafia empire?" Emily teases, her laughter ringing in my ears like the sweetest melody.

"Exactly," I agree, kissing her forehead gently.

"And with you as a mother, she’ll be born with quite the streak. All those men I’ve seen you take down … should I be scared?”

She laughs. Then she doubles over in pain, clutching her ribs.

"Damn it, Rosalie, I wish I could take away your pain," I mutter, more to myself than to her.

She smiles at me through the tears in her eyes, reaching out to touch my cheek.

"I know, Felix. And I love you for it. But you can’t. Yet, having you next to me helps.”

"Good." I give her a reassuring smile as I apply a topical analgesic to her bruises.

"Because I'm never letting you go again without a fight."

Her smile grows wider, lighting up her face and easing some of the tension in my chest.

"I won't let you either, Felix. We're a team now.”

"Enough of this," I murmur, unable to bear the distance between us any longer.

“Oh, how I’ve missed you,” I say, inching closer to her.
