If I work at the bar, he’s bound to find and kill me. If I leave, where do I go? I need a plan.

To set a plan in motion, I need a new phone and a way to escape from Illinois by finding the next place to head to while ensuring Felix doesn’t see me around.

So, as my quarantine ends, I muster up the courage and leave my room at The White Rabbit well past 3am.

The bar downstairs is closed and locked. I make sure to check before I exit my room.

What next? Find the nearest 7-11.

I stole a girl’s ID card from the bars’ lost and found and forged it with my photograph.

Emily Jackson will be dead from this day forward since Redneck is ready to hunt her down to the ends of the earth.

As for what name I’ll take? I’ll have to figure it out once I get to Texas.

That’s right. Texas.

I shut my bedroom door behind me and walk downstairs to The White Rabbit. I hug my black hoodie closer to my body, keys in hand.

I tiptoe through the kitchen and exit from the back door.

I’m outside in the fresh air in the blink of an eye. Everything is silent - no one is around for miles. It sends chills down my spine as I step into the darkness.

As I’m about to unlock the gate that leads to freedom, someone behind me grabs me and clasps a hand over my mouth before I can scream for help.

“Hush, little one,” I hear his creepy voice in my ear. “Going somewhere?”

It’s Redneck.

I want to explain, but he still has his hand over my mouth.

“Shh,” he repeats, taking the gun from behind his back and pointing it at me. He pushes me towards his truck and, without hesitation, ties my hands together.

“You can keep your mouth shut for now,” he tells me coldly, shoving in a rag so I can’t scream for help.

“If you try anything, the next time you wake up, it will be in front of the devil himself.”

He roughly pushes me into his truck’s backseat, starts the engine, and drives off into the night.

We continue driving through the darkness miles away without knowing how long we’ve been on the road.

The only sound is Redneck’s frustrated silence as he occasionally grunts in discontentment.

My heart races out of control as I sit helplessly, with no idea where we are heading or what awaits me at the end of this journey.

One shrouded in blackmail and consequences brought forth by this monster from my past - Redneck - a nightmare that can’t be unleashed onto my life any more than it already has been.

Sometime later, we pull off the highway onto an abandoned path winding through some trees full of scrubby foliage and dead branches.

Redneck takes a sudden turn and pulls up in front of a rather large expanse of forest.

He unlocks the door and pulls me out with brute force, kicking me to the ground.

My hands are still tied back, and I struggle to get to my feet.

He walks towards me with an evil grin and removes the gag from my mouth.

“So I see you wanna play...” he tells me, his cold eyes menacingly staring into mine as if trying to convey some hidden message below his words.
