We go down the hallway to Enzo’s office, Emily leading the way.
She walks in with confidence and begins to scan Enzo’s computer.
“I knew it,” she says, “these are the same files used to breach our system.”
I lean closer to her, wanting to know every detail of what she’s found. “What does this mean?”
“It means that Enzo is working with the hackers,” she says, facing me. “He’s been stealing from us and selling information to our enemies.”
I feel anger and betrayal stirring within me.
I’ve known Enzo for years. He’s been a loyal member of our family.
But now, he’s crossed a line that can never be forgiven.
“We need to deal with this,” I say.
Emily nods. “I have an idea,” she says, a mischievous glint in her eye.
“We can use him to our advantage. We can feed him false information and see where it leads us.”
I raise an eyebrow. “Go on,” I say.
“We can’t let him know we’re onto him,” she says.
“Instead of confronting him, we can give him a false trail. He’ll lead us to the hackers, and we can catch him.”
I nod, impressed. “Alright,” I say. “But we have to do this carefully. We don’t want him catching on.”
Emily smirks. “Trust me,” she says.
“I know what I’m doing. Also, Felix,” she says, turning to face me before we go back into the common room where everyone awaits.
“Don’t let anyone in there know what we know. He can’t be tipped off.”
I nod, watching Emily erase any trace of her activities on Enzo’s computer.
She’s smart, I think to myself. I’m glad she’s on our side.
We return to the common room, where everyone is waiting for us.
I can feel their distrust and suspicion like a thick fog.
It’s up to me to reassure them and make them believe we’re still in control.
“Enzo had some personal business to attend to,” I say, addressing the room.
“He won’t be joining us for a while. But we have work to do. We need to find these hackers and make them pay. With Emily’s help, we have a lead. We’ll follow it until we get what we need.”
There’s a round of nods and murmurs of agreement from the room. They’re still uneasy, I can tell.
They’re waiting for me to make a mistake, to show weakness. But I won’t let them down.
We’ll find the hackers and flush them out.
We’ll make sure Enzo pays for his betrayal.
As we get ready to leave, Emily comes up to me.
