“We need to do this, Angelo. We need to catch them in the act.”

Behind me, a dozen breathless faces are watching my screen intently.

I turn to Felix, leaning against the wall, watching us intently.

“Are you ready for this?” I ask him. “You will take a financial hit. Not everything, but enough for it to hurt.”

He nods, his eyes fixed on mine. “Let’s do it,” he says, his voice low and gravelly.

“We’ll get back what we’re owed, but we’ll never get back our pride unless we know who they are.”

I can feel the anticipation building within me as we sit and wait for the hackers to make their move.

Every minute feels like an eternity, but we must be patient. We have to let them think they’ve won.

Suddenly, the alert sounds again. “We have a transfer,” I say, my heart pounding.

“Trace it,” Felix says, his voice calm and controlled.

I get to work, my fingers flying over the keyboard. Then, we have it. The IP address of the hacker.

“Got it!” I say, my heart racing with excitement. “It’s in the Industrial District.”

Felix nods, his face set in a determined expression.

“Gather the troops,” he says in a low voice. “We’re going after them.”

I quickly send the location to the rest of the team while Felix barks orders to the enforcers.

They grab their guns and run to the cars parked outside.

I grab my laptop bag and follow them.

“What do you think you’re doing?” says Felix.

“You’ve done your part. You stay here.”

“I’m coming with you,” I say.

“I brought you this far. I want to see this finished off.”

“Emily, No,” he mutters, gently pushing away a strand of hair from my face.

“What if you get hurt?”

“I can take care of myself,” I say, meeting his gaze with determination.

“And what if they try to make a run for it? I need to be able to place GPS trackers on their vehicles. Look,” I say, pointing at one of his men who is running with a few drones and flat-ground robots to the car.

“I need to get those drones to install trackers.”

He lets out a sigh and nods. “Fine. But you stay close to me. Got it? And if I get out of the car, you stay in it. You do not, under any circumstance, get out of the car, and if anything happens, you get out of there. You don’t take

any unnecessary risks. You know how to drive?”

I roll my eyes. “Yes, Felix. I know how to drive.”

He nods, satisfied. “Good. Stay sharp.”
