He sighs. “Yeah, it can be.”

I’ve stayed away from almost all of the fray of Colin’s career. Colin and Flynn are considered two of the most eligible bachelors in the tech world. They’re in magazines, give tons of interviews, and are talked about constantly on Twitter where everyone feels like an armchair expert. But to me, it’s just my brother and his best friend. “You know there are cameras everywhere we go,” I say.

“Not surprised.”

“Well, someone should have warned me.”

“Don’t hold that against Flynn. They’re part and parcel to our lives now. He’s way more used to it than me, though. I mean he dealt with Adelaide and her constant swarm of paparazzi for way longer than I would have been able to.”

I look down the cobblestone road at a black van that I’ve noticed following us at most of our locations. There are at least three photographers who are camped out in there. They must have taken a ferry from Santorini in order to follow us. How they knew where we’d be going, I can only guess.

Friends of the rich and famous aren’t always sofriendly.

“Well, just know if I’m ever in a picture holding hands with Flynn or something it’s not real.”

Colin laughs, “I know that. I’m surprised you’re even letting him hold your hand.”

“Yeah, me too.” Four days ago we were squabbling on the dock in Athens. Now, we’re holding hands in public. We might be acting, but I can’t ignore what it’s been doing to my insides. Mush, right away. And sleeping next to him the past few nights has been… nice. I haven’t slept beside anyone except my dogs in a couple of years. Which reminds me… “How’s Freckles?”

“She’s good. She won’t eat the dry food, though.”

Colin has been watching Freckles. I hate to give her separation anxiety right away, but I’m happy to know my little senior dog has a home with Flynn when he returns.

“Stella…”

“What?”

“You’re stalling. Just go back inside, have a couple of shots, and enjoy yourself. This is a vacation,” Colin reprimands.

Is it though? To be on edge at all moments pretending to be Flynn’s girlfriend while quietly nursing the littlest nugget of a romantic attraction to him?Relax, Stella. If you spent this much time with any man, you’d probably be in love with him.I need to get back on the apps once I get home. I’ve been single for too long. “Okay, fine.”

“You just text me if you need a boost, alright?”

“Love you, Col.”

“You too, Stell. Bye.”

I hang up and slip my phone back into my clutch. Take a deep breath of the warm Mykonos air, and bask in the starry night.

“Hey, I’ve been looking for you.”

I turn to find Flynn poking his head out of the door of the club. He’s looking absolutelyfinetonight. Light blue linen shirt unbuttoned just enough to start giving me a peek at that beautiful chest and a pair of khakis. And, of course, he’s wearing his glasses which is justadorable.

And he was looking for me. That counts for something.

“Yeah, just needed some fresh air,” I say, taking a few steps toward him.

“The cigarette smoke will do that,” Flynn replies with a grin. He takes a step closer to me. “We can go back to the boat if you’re not having fun.”

I quirk my lips to the side. “Who says I’m not having fun?”

He shrugs. “No one. But since you snuck off, I had to wonder if –”

“Flynn! Flynn! Over here!”

I leap into the air at the sound of a camera flashing. Flynn grabs me by the arm just as I get a glimpse at one of the paparazzi. They must have been waiting for something like this to happen.

“Who is your lady friend?! Give her a kiss!”
