Page 30 of A Hero For Heather

There wasn’t any getting out of this, but he knew that Heather wouldn’t want people to know what they had. Not that he even knew what the fuck that was to begin with.

“I’ve talked to her before. At the wedding and the Christmas party. Just now. Nothing major.”

Zane and Trace looked at each other. Zane said, “Got it. It won’t leave this bar.”

“That’s right,” Trace said. “I understand.”

He was happy he didn’t have to tell them that, but he knew he damn well was going to have to let Heather know his two friends caught on pretty fast.

He figured women were more likely to do that. At least it would give him a reason to reach out to her tomorrow and not hold off any longer.

Came To Her

Heather had dodged a bullet last night when she returned from the bathroom.

Or so she thought.

She’d been gone longer than she should have been and hadn’t expected Luke to be there at the same time as her.

Like he came to her. And then he made sure they talked. She was positive he was there for her to run into when she came out. That was what she was telling herself at least.

Then he asked for her number.

There was part of her that wanted to do a little booty shake after he asked for her number, but then she realized he didn’t offer his up so she was still stuck waiting on him.

But hadn’t she agreed with Daisy it was better to wait for the man to come to her?

Yeah, she had and last night it might have happened.

When she got back to the table though, Daisy had noticed right away that she was gone longer than normal and that Luke came out after her. It was hard not to. Ivy hadn’t though; she was on her phone trying to find something to show them. Some pictures of one of her last boyfriends.

They’d dropped Ivy off with not one word about Luke, then came home and Heather said she was getting ready for bed and watching TV there. She had a headache.

She hated lying, but there was part of her that hoped Luke would reach out and the other part that figured he wouldn’t.

On top of that, she didn’t want to answer any questions in regards to Luke that Daisy was dying to ask. She’d seen it on her friend’s face.

She wasn’t getting that wish this morning though when she came out of her room and found Daisy at the counter sipping her coffee with a big grin on her face.

“So...anything you want to share about a bathroom break last night?”

“Nothing to share. I had a long pee.”

Daisy laughed. “Come on now. It won’t go any further than me.”

She’d been wanting to talk to someone about this all along and just had no idea how to bring it up. “What do you want to know?”

“Do you have the hots for Luke?”

“Doesn’t every woman that looks at him?” she asked. Daisy had made the comment before at the Christmas party. She felt it was safe to say that.

“They do,” Daisy said. “But it was you that he followed to the bathroom and then you both came back at the same time. Longer than it should take even for a long pee.”

“We talked,” she said.

“And?” Daisy asked. “Come on. Don’t leave me in suspense. I’ve had the feeling something is going on with you. I’m going to be so upset if you are seeing him and no one knows. How do you keep that from me? We work during the day and are home on the weekends. I know I work some weekends, but normally have one day off.”
