“Really?” she asked. That was news to her.

“Sorry,” Lily said. “Maybe I shouldn’t have said that.”

“No, it’s fine. I know when he has days off and I’m working he’s not doing much.”

“He’s used to staying busy,” Lily said. “Or so Zane has said. Zane could always use the help, but I think it might be something that would work out here on the property for Blossoms.”

“I didn’t know Luke did construction,” she said, frowning.

“I think he does enough. Not like Zane,” Lily said. “Things are going well with you two?”

“They are,” she said.

“Between us, Zane has said you are exactly what Luke needs. Just keep that in your back pocket if you need it.”

“Thanks, Lily. That means a lot.”

She left after that and returned to work. She wasn’t going to say anything to Luke about Lily saying he’d asked to work with Zane. It was probably just between the guys. She had no right to get annoyed he didn’t share it with her just because she was in love with him.

She’d have to tell him those words and she found that she didn’t have as loose lips as she’d hoped.

Sexy And Nerdy

The following Monday, Luke showed up in Heather’s greenhouse ready to start building some shelving units.

“Thanks for helping out,” Zane said to him. The wood was outside and Zane was pulling out papers with designs and dimensions on them.

“No problem. Consider me your worker bee. I can hammer these things out easily enough. It’s the detail work that is harder.”

It’s like he’d said before. Some people were meant to lead, others to zone in and follow directions. That was him and would always be him and he had no problem admitting it.

“I appreciate it,” Zane said. “I’m being pulled in a ton of directions and sometimes there are things on the property that just need to get done too. Lily is good about not pushing and this isn’t a rush, but considering where the work is being done, I thought you might not have an issue with it.”

“Nah,” he said. It would let him spend some time with Heather for a few days. He was off for three more days before his rotation began again.

“I didn’t think so,” Zane said. “We are going to put these units up all along one wall.”

He looked down the length of the greenhouse. “That’s going to be a lot of units.” The drawings were simple enough and had five levels on each. Heather was going to need a ladder or step stool at the very least to get to the top.

“It is,” Zane said. “Heather won’t need them all now but whatever you can get done in the next few days is great and then finish when you can.”

“That is going to hold me over for a long time,” Heather said, coming out from behind a glass door. “I get to work with my boyfriend today. Kind of. I promise not to distract him too much, Zane.”

Zane laughed. “Not much distracts Luke when he’s in work mode.”

Luke just winked at Heather. “She knows that.”

He saw her blush and knew she took it as he’d intended that when he had a purpose in his mind nothing got in his way. In the bedroom or out.

“Then let’s get started,” Zane said. “We’ll do the first one together and you’re on your own for the rest.”

It didn’t take long to get the first one done and put in place, Zane leaving about ninety minutes later. It took more time than anything to go back and forth to cut the wood in the barn. He realized now that the wood outside was just a fraction and nothing more than Zane laying it out on the ground with most of the pieces having been pre-cut.

“I’ve got some water if you want it,” Heather said, coming out to see him. “I have a fridge back here with snacks and drinks.”

“Thanks,” he said. “Water is good.”
