Something clicks in the back of my mind.

The mirror I said I wanted for my dream home and—

It’ll be something on a lake and very expensive.

“Finn,” I say slowly, realisation dawning on me. “Who am I designing this house for?”

“For us,” he says simply. “I bought this place for us.”

“You—” The world around me starts to spin. My voice comes out sounding strangled. “Youboughtthis? When?”

“That night I asked you to come here,” he says sheepishly. “Ithasbeen on the market for a while, and when Nel showed me some photos I knew that it would be perfect for you.”

“For me?” I hear what he’s saying, but the words aren’t making any sense.

“For you, sweetheart.” A pause. He gives me a sheepish smile. “For us.”

He’s bought me a house.

He’s bought me mydreamhouse and even set things up so I can design it exactly how I want to.

“Why?” My voice comes out as a croak. I don’t need to look in the mirror again to know my eyes are filling with tears.

“I’m going to marry you one day, Amber.” He says it so simply, like it’s a given fact of life.

The sky is blue, the Earth is round and, one day, Finn Hawthorne is going to marry me.

“I thought it made sense to get a start on our dream home.”

If the world was spinning before, now I’m in a vortex. I stumble against the nearest wall for some stability and take deep, calming breaths.

He bought me my dream mirror.

He bought me ahouse.

He wants to marry me.

He—

“I love you, Amber.”

I shake my head and a hysterical laugh bubbles from my lips. “You are the mostfrustratingman I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.”

“Not the response you want after an ‘I love you’,” he says with a soft smile. “But I’ll take it.”

“I love you too, Finn. Ido.But this? This is too much.” I shake my head,I’vejust bought a house. I’ve got bills to pay. Amortgage. We don’t even live in the same country, we—”

He lifts my hand and presses it against his lips. “I don’t care how long I have to wait. I’m not asking you to move out here and marry me right away. Go back to London, start your business, do what you need to do. I’ll be cheering you on from the sidelines, and we can make it long distance; I know we can. And when you’re ready, I’ll be here for you.”

I blink and tears quickly begin to fall. “You didn’t have to buy me a house to tell me that, you know? You could’ve just said it. It would’ve had the same effect.”

“Doubtful.” His expression turns anxious. “What do you think?”

WhatdoI think?

I prod my finger into his chest and glower up at him. “I think that this is simultaneously the most romantic and most selfish thing anyone has ever done for me.”

He bows his head and I have to poke him again to get him to look at me.
