Understanding swept through Laksi’s expression. “Oh, you are registered with the BDC.”

“I am. Was. Not sure.” She bit her lip. “I think I need to ratify that.”

“So, why platonic?”

“The blood-absorption thing. I am slowly getting a handle on my activation, but Nandy had to help a lot.”

Laksi smiled and got a tray of bacon from inside one of the ovens, setting it down at the kitchen table.

“Thanks so much for breakfast. I will get Nandy.” She smiled and headed for the lab.

After passing security, she stepped into the lab and saw Nandy frantically typing at her terminal. “Nandy, get breakfast and then come here and continue your research.”

Nandy turned toward her, and Kyda realized she was the genetic carrier who had delivered the dark green eyes to Ados.

“Breakfast?”

“Yes, Nandy. Laksi made it.”

“I will come right away. I hope she made coffee.”

“If she didn’t, I will. Come on.”

Kyda headed upstairs and helped Laksi set things up as Ados came downstairs. Kyda frowned at him. “Where did you get those clothes?”

He chuckled. “The other closet.”

“There’s another closet?”

“That’s my room, so yeah.” He bent and pressed his forehead to hers. “Our room.”

Nandy came up from the lab with two injectors. She walked up to Laksi and jabbed her in the arm with the first. “This is the primer, and now for the mineral shot.”

The second gun hissed on impact, and Laksi made a face. “So, that one sucked.”

“The binding should be underway by the time breakfast is over, and we can continue to top you up for the rest of the day.”

Laksi chuckled. “Kritz is going to be jealous.”

They sat around the table and started eating.

Nandy smiled. “I have an advantage. I am familiar with your genome. I am probably more familiar with your bloodline than anyone else on the planet. You fight tech at every turn, and any healers have to be very specific as to their frequency.”

Ados blinked. “Well, how long will you need to keep Kyda, and Laksi, how long will you stay?”

Nandy looked at Kyda. “Do you want any psychic abilities?”

“Not really. Maybe a long-range communication, so I can ask Ados to bring milk on the way home.”

Nandy smiled. “I have access to that.”

Ados nodded. “Something that can access my mind, please.”

“Of course. Laksi, how long did you want to stay, and could you have one of the others come by so I can examine them?”

Kyda blinked. “Others?”

“Yeah, I know the whereabouts of three of the five missing embryos. They are... powerful and emotionally unstable. They also have alpha teeth, but nothing else is weird.” She smiled. “Well, not much else. They are far more emotionally savage than any active I have met. They work together seamlessly.”
