He chuckled and inhaled again. “You smell like heaven.”

She blinked. “What?”

“You smell like heaven. Anytime I have been wondering what my future would hold if everything went perfect, this scent drifted through my mind.”

“Weirdly specific.”

He laughed and ran his thumb under her pyjama top. “I don’t suppose I can have a taste...”

“No. Absolutely not.”

He sighed. “Spoilsport.”

She tugged his hair and said, “Get your head out of the hot zone. Just because I smell like heat doesn’t mean I know what is going to happen next. I mean, I know the theory, but my body isn’t really in showroom condition. I don’t know if the spare parts that were plugged into place will work.”

He surged up and kept is weight on his arms. “Can we try and figure it out?”

“Not today, and we have to find somewhere where curious ears aren’t listening.”

From behind the door, Amadine said, “Aw, come on!”

Geero looked at Ondine in surprise. “You knew?”

“I knew she wanted to find out if her little plot worked out.”

He stared at her, and his expression softened. “Omegas are not supposed to be alone.”

“I know. I am not alone. I have Titan and Amadine. And now the baby.” She laughed.

He rubbed the tip of his nose against hers and softly kissed her. “And now me.”

“I don’t really consider you added to the collection.”

He smiled, pressed a finger to her lips before he pulled it away, and kissed her.

They made out for nearly an hour, and she finally slept cuddled up against him.

Ondine sat up, and her hair tumbled around her. She scowled. “When did that happen?”

She heard voices and got up, heading into the kitchen. Amadine was working with a pile of apples, and Geero was helping to peel them.

“Wow, Onny, you are healing fast.”

“What?”

“Your chest.”

Ondine looked down, and her pyjamas were mostly open, and the left breast was nearly all flesh; the metal was fading. She buttoned it up and shrugged. “That’s different.”

Amadine smiled hopefully. “Cobbler?”

“Cobbler.” She got her bowl, flour, sugar, and all of the other bits and bobs. Amadine started chopping the fruit, and Geero kept peeling.

Ondine made the batter and heated the oven. She took a look at the mountain of fruit and went to make more of the batter. Amadine was chortling. “Men eat a lot more, and apples are good for you.”

Ondine chuckled. “Uh-huh. You eat a ton as well.”

“I am still building synapses,” Amadine smirked.
