Looking disturbed, she points toward the TV screen. “He was a high-ranking military officer, wasn’t he?”

I nod. “How do you know him?”

“I don’t know him personally. Jake once took me to a party that was hosted by him.” She stares at the wall unseeingly. “Did you know that most of the alphas who came down into that hellhole to abuse the omegas were mostly from the military?”

“Did you see Major Kelso there?” I ask.

“I’m not sure,” she says, her gaze fixed somewhere far away. “I never looked at any of their faces.” Anxiety is etched on her face as she focuses her attention back on the TV screen. “There are many more men from the military who have abused their positions. Callahan could’ve spilled the beans on all of them but he’s missing. How will you ever catch the assholes who were supporting the Black Widow?”

Her expression and voice grow steadily hysterical.

“What if they group together and create another terrorist group?” she asks, staring at me with wide eyes. “They’ll target the weak, especially the omegas once again. They’ll use us to make a shit ton of money and then use it to buy more weapons. The same cycle will repeat once more, killing thousands of innocents again.”

“Rory, calm down.”

My words have no effect on her. Her unfocused eyes tell me she’s drowning in her nightmarish memories.

Grabbing her shoulders firmly, I shake her while calling her name loudly. “Rory, listen to me! Callahan has been caught.”

“No, they said—”

“Callahan is in our hands. We’ll wrench out every traitor’s name from his lips. He’ll never escape us in this lifetime. We’ll make sure he pays for every sin he’s committed against our people.”

Confusion flickers in her silvery eyes. “You’re saying Callahan hasn’t escaped?”

I nod. “That’s exactly what I’m saying.”

Her eyes meet mine. “How? The news is saying he escaped.”

Closing my eyes, I exhale a long breath. “What I’m about to tell you is classified information,” I say in a slow, grim tone. “They’ll probably kill me this time if you let it out.”

Her lips part as an anxious expression spreads on her face. “I don’t want to know, then. If it’s classified, you shouldn’t tell me.”

“I’d rather die than let you live in fear.”

“Why do you have to be so damn good to me?” she asks in a broken voice. Her eyes suddenly glisten with tears and within seconds, they stream down her cheeks as a painful sob escapes her.

“Come here, love,” I say, pulling her against me.

Clinging to me, she surrenders to her emotions.

Even though the sound of her anguished sobs is painful to me, I don’t tell her to stop crying. The first step to relieve her from her trauma is to let her face the grief she’s been carrying on her shoulders. Only then, she’ll start to heal from her emotional scars.

“I’ll always protect you,” I say, kissing the top of her head. “Those bastards will never touch you again. We’ll destroy them once and for all.”

It’s a while before she calms down. When her tears finally dry up, she stares at me. “How do you know that Callahan has been caught?”

“Because he’s currently chained up in a dungeon and is being heavily monitored by the Solveig Pack,” I tell her. “The world thinks he’s escaped. We’re allowing the media to bash us for now because it is helping us spread the misinformation to his supporters. This will give them a false sense of security. They’ll become careless and fall into our traps easily.”

Her fingers grab onto the front of my shirt. “So, the leader of the Black Widow has been truly captured?”

“That’s right,” I say as a grin spreads on my lips. “He’s not going anywhere.” Caressing her cheeks, I lean in to kiss her gently.

She melts against my chest and makes a soft purring noise. “Seth?”

“Hmm?”

“Can I ask you what happened to the other omegas you rescued?”
