“They are still in the rehab facility,” I answer her despite knowing this is also confidential information. “The drugs that kept them numbed were extremely dangerous. They’re driven mad without their regular dose. It’s been challenging for the people looking after them.”

Taking a deep breath, I hold her hands in mine tightly. “You have no idea how glad I am to know that you never took them. I can’t imagine you going through the same pain as them. It’d have killed me to watch you suffer like that.”

“I might’ve eventually succumbed to taking them,” she says, her eyes dimming with sadness. “If you didn’t get us out in time, I’d probably be suffering like them.” A heavy sigh escapes her as she meets my gaze. “Will they ever get better?”

“We hope that with time and patience, we’ll be able to help them.”

“What about the younger children who were kept with us? Are they also in the same facility?”

“They’re doing much better,” I tell her. “They’re getting healthier and stronger but their carers have to break through layers of mind washing. The Black Widow groomed them to be willing omegas to their masters from a very young age. Even a five-year-old has been taught to act seductively and submissively toward older men. It’s disgusting as fuck!”

Revulsion spreads on her face. “These people committed so much evil. I wish they were being punished with the same treatment too.”

“Not all of them are dead. We’ll make sure Callahan and his followers feel at least a fraction of the pain that those innocents went through.”

Mentioning Callahan’s name brings me a sense of foreboding. “Rory, you must not reveal any detail of this conversation to an outsider. Disgusting as it may sound, these omegas are considered to be highly-priced. They’ve all been groomed to meet the sick expectations of elitist bastards like the Black Widow. We can’t let the wrong people know their whereabouts and jeopardize their safety.”

A grim expression spreads on her face. “You don’t have to tell me twice. I’ll never talk about this to anyone other than you, Oliver, and Simon.”

Relief spreads through me, making me smile at her.

“There’s something I want to ask,” she says, looking hesitant. “The answer would most likely be a big no but I’ll still ask.”

“What is it, Rory?

“Do you think I could go and see them?” she asks with a desperate look in her eyes. “I want to see how they’re all doing.”

Sadness descends into her eyes, sending a spasm through me.

The facility where the rescued omegas are being treated is also a top secret among our packs. We’ve taken every precaution to ensure their safety from omega traffickers.

“Is their location confidential too?” she asks when I’m silent for too long.

“It is,” I confess. “But I’ll take you to see them. Maybe seeing them in a better place will heal some of your trauma. I’ll talk to Simon and Oliver and we’ll arrange a visit.”

“Thank you,” she says, looking relieved. “I’ve often felt guilty about being so pampered by you and your brothers. Oliver and Simon make me laugh all the time. At times, it hits me hard. I was lucky enough to meet you, but what about the others who went through the same nightmare as me but weren’t so lucky to find a pack like yours.”

“You were brave enough to stay away from those drugs,” I say in a grim tone. “That’s one of the main reasons why you’ve been able to fight and carve your place among us. The others succumbed to their fate and gave up on their minds.”

“They were forced to accept those drugs,” she says in a bitter tone.

“Even if we brought one of those women among us, do you think they’d be able to appreciate what we’d offer them?” I tell her. “The drugs have affected their behavioral patterns in such a way that even when they’re in a group, they’re incapable of forming friendships and relationships.” Grasping her hands in mine, I add, “You should never feel guilty about being with me and my brothers.”

Rage flashes through her silvery eyes. “I hope the Black Widow rot in hell!”

I nod. “I’m sure they will. So, don’t worry about them coming back again,” I say, gazing into her eyes. “We’ll destroy them from the root. Just don’t mention any of this to your dad or any of your friends,” I end with a nervous chuckle.

She takes a deep breath and wipes away the dampness from her cheeks. “I won’t tell anyone. I promise.” Her hands reach up to cup my face. “Why are you so good to me, Seth?”

“I don’t know. Maybe I fell for your smile the very first time I saw you. Maybe something inside you calls out to me. You may not feel it, but I believe that you’re my one true mate, Rory. You’re mine to protect and cherish. I’d give my life to prove that to you.”

“Stop saying you’ll die for me,” she says, looking suddenly angry. “I didn’t understand you the first time we met but things are different now. You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I forbid you from getting hurt because of me.”

The words dropping from her lips make my chest swell with happiness. I can’t help my growing smile.

“Rory, I’ll never let anyone hurt you again. I’ll die to protect—” The rest of my words are drowned by her lips as she kisses me fiercely.

Her small hands rest along my thick neck as she angles her face to kiss me better.
