Seth clears his throat. “All the important folks?” he says, frowning at his brothers. “Our fathers are yet to meet Rory.”

The mention of their fathers leaves me feeling more nervous. They sound more like their commanders than their dads.

“See? You’ve already gotten her anxious and she hasn’t even touched her food yet!” Oliver scolds at once.

“Rory, look at me,” Seth says, drawing my attention to him. “Don’t worry about our dads. They’ll be proud to know their sons have the most beautiful omega in the world as their mate.”

It always feels surreal when Seth and his brothers call me beautiful.

When I look in the mirror, I just see a bony, pitiful-looking omega. Even though I’m getting better each day, there’s still a harsh difference from what I used to look like.

The sincerity shining in their eyes tells me they’re not lying. They truly mean what they’re saying.

I wish I could delve into their minds and see myself through their eyes.

“Here, you go,” says Simon, pushing a plate of food toward me. “I’ve drenched everything in syrup. Even the bacon’s going to be sweet.”

“Thanks,” I say, smiling at the amount of syrup he’s unloaded on my pancakes. “These look delicious.”

Picking up my knife and fork, I dig into the food. A stream of syrup dribbles past my lips but I don’t bother wiping it off.

Next second, Oliver leans in, stopping me from taking my next bite.

Before I know it, he’s swiped his tongue over the corner of my mouth. “So, so sweet,” he croons, nudging the tip of his nose against my cheek.

Heat blooms along my neck and cheeks. Even a mere gesture from him is enough to send my heart pounding in my chest.

He moves away but my core wouldn’t stop fluttering and throbbing.

“Would you stop teasing her?” Seth scolds from the other side of the table. “Let her eat.”

“Like you could’ve resisted doing that,” Oliver retorts, grinning mischievously.

Swallowing my shyness, I force another bite into my mouth.

“Are there any rules I need to follow when we’re there?” I ask, sipping on some coffee.

“Try not to wander off on your own,” Seth says. “The estate is heavily guarded against outsiders, so we’re not worried about any attacks. It’s just that some of the women aren’t always in a stable state of mind. They mostly act out around noon, demanding we give them the blue pills.”

A rush of air escapes me as a vision of those tiny powder-blue pills rises in my mind. Every omega around me waited for them. They were always more interested in those drugs than the pitiful dinner they offered us.

“Can they get over their addiction?” I ask slowly.

“The doctors believe it’s possible with time and patience,” Simon says in a grim tone. “It’s only been a few months since we rescued them, so it’ll be a while before we see any significant improvement in their mental health.”

“Are you sure you want to go there?” Seth asks, meeting my gaze. “If seeing them reminds you of the past, we can cancel the visit.”

“No. I want to see them. I want to see that they’re being given a chance at life like me.”

“Don’t suffer a survivor’s guilt,” Oliver says, wrapping his hand around mine. “The only reason you’re doing marginally better than them is because you didn’t stay down there long enough to succumb to those drugs.”

“You guys have been taking care of me,” I say honestly. “That’s the only reason I’m getting better.”

“When you go to the rehab center, you’ll see that those women are being treated with care and kindness,” says Simon. “We’ll not abandon any of them.”

“Come on,” says Oliver as he rises to his feet. “Let us take you to meet them. You’ll believe what we’re telling you only when you see them with your own eyes.”

Putting down my empty cup, I stand up. “Let me go and grab my jacket.”
