“I—err—I don’t have a surveillance room,” Mayor Bailley mumbles, looking disturbed. “There are some cameras along the front gates and backyard for added security but that’s it. You can check the feeds on my phone.”

“There are no cameras inside the house?” Oliver gasps.

“Do you guys have cameras inyourhome?” The mayor asks, raising his eyebrows.

“No,” Simon mutters. “But we’ve got hundreds of soldiers guarding our home.”

“Can you show us the feeds of the front gate?” I say. “I just want to make sure Rory hasn’t left the house.”

“Where would she go without us?” Oliver asks at once. “You have the car keys with you. If she had to go somewhere, she’d have come to you first.”

“I want to make sure before we turn this place upside down.”

The mayor looks alarmed but he sits down on the edge of the bed and pulls out his phone. He scrolls for a few seconds before handing his cell phone to me.

My brothers gather behind me as I play the footage from four security cameras. It takes us a while to go through them on the small screen but we finally catch a glimpse of her.

“There she is,” Simon whispers. “That’s her dress. Zoom in, Bruh.”

Pausing the video, I zoom in on the woman’s face. The bright field lights on the front lawn give us a clear image of Rory’s face.

“That’s her,” says Oliver. “Keep playing so we can see what she’s up to.”

Nothing seems out of the ordinary other than the fact that Rory is walking across the lawn and heading toward the main gates.

“Who the hell are those two women tailing her?” Oliver says.

That’s when I notice two women in fancy gowns following Rory.

As we watch, they follow her all the way to the main gates and then, outside.

To my surprise, both Rory and the women walk to the end of the street until they disappear from the camera’s coverage area.

“What the hell...” Simon mutters. “What the hell are they doing?”

“Maybe Mr. Mayor knows them?” Oliver says uncertainly. “Show their faces to him.”

I sit down on the bed beside Rory’s dad and show him the phone’s screen with the strange women’s zoomed-in faces. “Do you recognize them?”

Taking the phone from me, he squints at the screen. “No...I’ve never seen them before.” He glances up at me and my brothers. “Maybe they came in as someone’s guests?”

“We can check the feeds to see who they came in with but it’ll take forever to go through hours of footage to find them,” says Oliver.

“What’s the point of checking?” The mayor mutters. “Rory’s not home.”

“Rory would never leave like that without mentioning a word to us,” I say.

Mayor Bailley shakes his head, looking sad and disappointed. “She used to do this a lot,” he says slowly. “Rory hated coming to my parties. I always had to force but as she grew up, she’d retaliate by leaving on her own.”

“Rory’s not like that anymore,” I tell him. “She cares about you and loves you very much.”

“I don’t know.” His shoulders slump forward. “I thought she looked really happy with you guys but if she’s still behaving the way she used to...I don’t know what to do about her.”

“Hey, don’t worry,” I say, wrapping an arm around his shoulders. “We’ll figure out where she went. There’s no way she’ll leave us behind and go somewhere without an explanation.”

Clearing my throat, I look toward Simon and Oliver. “Go get the laptop from the car,” I say in a commanding tone. “We’ll go through the footage carefully until we figure out who those women were. In the meantime, I’ll reach out to headquarters and ask them to send us the footage of the streets in this area.”

My brothers sense the urgency in my tone. They nod grimly and leave the room.
