A painful memory of being trapped in a hotel suite rises in my mind.

What if Seth does the same thing Jake did to me?

What if he went to get his friends to share me with them?

What if he came back with alphas who’re willing to pay him big, fat wads of cash for me?

My panic returns, making me curse at myself. I should’ve run out of this house the second I wokeup.

Seth appears at the doorway with big, bulging shopping bags in his arms. A surprised expression spreads on his face as he stares at me.

“I didn’t think you’d wake up so soon,” he says, stepping inside the kitchen.

My hands are balled into tight fists at my side as he places the bags on a table in the corner.

“You were asleep, so I thought I’d go out and buy us some food and water,” he says, keeping his back toward me. “This cottage used to be a hunting lodge but my brothers and I turned it into a chilling pad. None of us care about shooting deer and rabbits. We’d rather be feeding them, you know? We love it when they bring their fawns to feast on the berries that grow wild in this area.”

My gaze rests on the knives sticking out of a wooden stand in the corner. It’d be so easy to grab one and stab him in the back while he rambles on.

“My brothers are also busy managing the aftermath of the raid on the Black Widow,” he continues. “They’ll be too busy right now to even think of coming here.”

I’m still debating whether to take my chance or not when he turns around. A warm smile brightens his handsome face. “No one will disturb us here. You’ll be safe until your heat subsides. After that, I’ll take you home.” Picking up one of the bags, he comes closer. “You must be hungry.”

“Are those burgers?” I ask, recognizing the logo of a local chain that sells the best burgers and shakes in the towns around Jersey.

“Yep,” he says, extending his hand toward me. “Want some?”

All thoughts of stabbing him disappear from my head as my focus zeroes in on the parcel he’s offering me. I snatch the bag at once and tear it open.

The smell of smoky, grilled meat wafts into my nostrils. My mouth waters as I open the paper wrap off the first burger and take a large bite.

A loud moan escapes me at the first taste of the soft bun and juicy meat. My eyes flutter close as I chew through the heavenly mouthful.

“There’s salad and fried chicken as well,” Seth says, gesturing toward the table in the corner.

I stuff the rest of the burger into my mouth and stomp toward the table. He’s even brought large cups of thick, creamy milkshakes. I rummage among the food parcels with impatient hands and find cartons of chicken nuggets and fries too.

I bite into another burger and immediately take a sip of the chocolate milkshake. The food is so mind-blowingly delicious, I keep eating without stopping for a moment.

I’m sure I look like a disgusting pig right now but I don’t give a fuck. After being starved for weeks, I only care about stuffing myself with as much food as I can.

Seth stares at me with a pitying look but to hell with him. I’ve been famished for weeks. The Black Widow fed us such revolting food that I ate only when I couldn’t stand the painful churning in my stomach.

I keep choking but I don’t stop stuffing my mouth.

Seth watches me calmly as I devour whatever he’s brought home.

“Enough, Rory,” he says after a long while. “You’ll get sick if you eat more.”

“Fuck off,” I say, about to grab a burger that’s left inside a torn bag.

His hand closes over my wrist. “You’ve already eaten fifteen of those,” he says, looking grim. “Not to mention the drumsticks and milkshake you’ve consumed. It’s time to stop, Rory.”

I atefifteenburgers?

Now that I’ve had a moment’s break, I’m realizing how heavy my stomach feels. It feels like a giant rock is sitting in my belly. Breathing a sigh, I step away from the mound of torn wrappers and chicken bones.

Seth relaxes his hold on my wrist. “Those bastards must’ve starved you,” he says, looking angry.
