I follow him as he moves toward the couch and places the bags on it. “Take a look and see if they fit you,” he says, sinking into a chair. “I’ll take you home tomorrow, so you’ll need the clothes that you usually wear so people don’t notice anything different about you. Obviously, they’ll see how thin you are but you can make up a lie about being on some crazy fad diet.”

“You’re taking me home tomorrow?” I ask, feeling a stab of disappointment.

“I’ve abandoned my duties to help you and let my brothers pick up the slack,” he says, looking unusually grim. “You’d also feel less stressed after I take you home.” Another exhausted sigh escapes his lips. “You will recover faster with your friends and family around.”

No, I needyou, I want to shout out, but I stay silent. He can never know what he truly means to me.

Moving closer to the shopping bags, I open the one that’s closest to me. Something bright red peeks at me, making me curious at once.

I take the item out and unfurl it. “Wow,” I whisper, staring at the gorgeous red maxi dress. “You bought this for me?”

“Yeah,” he says, looking wary. “Is it to your taste?”

I give an enthusiastic nod and can’t help the grin that blossoms on my lips. “Red’s my favorite color. And this dress...it’s beautiful.”

“That’s good,” he says with a light smile. “I wasn’t wrong about your style.”

“What do you mean?”

“I saw you at one of your dad’s parties last year,” he says. “My pack was commissioned to guard the premises, so I was keeping a watch over the guests walking in through the doors. You wore a red sequined dress and looked so beautiful, I couldn’t take my eyes off you.” A small grin plays on his lips as he meets my gaze. “That’s how I guessed that your favorite color is red.”

Surprise washes over me. “Is that how you recognized me?”

He nods. “I asked around and found out that you’re Mayor Bailey’s daughter.”

“Why didn’t you come and talk to me?”

“You were in the arms of another man,” he says as his smile dims. “Your attention stayed on him the whole time you were there. I’m not someone who covets another man’s mate, so I kept my distance.”

“That’s kind of...classy,” I say, failing to come up with the best adjective for him. Seth is the perfect gentleman, a knight in shining armor, a beautiful savior all put together in the body of a Greek warrior.

A chuckle escapes him as he notices the blush spreading on my cheeks. “Thanks, I guess?” Erasing the smile on his face, he fixes me with a serious look. “Does that guy have anything to do with what happened to you?”

It’s a struggle to keep a straight face and not show him the rage and hatred I feel for Jake. My revenge will be mine alone. Seth’s a decent guy but I don’t want him getting involved with a snake like my ex.

“Don’t ask me about that stuff,” I say in a quiet voice. “I’m still not ready to talk about it yet.”

He lets out a heavy sigh. Getting to his feet, he stretches his long arms over his head. “I’m going to go into the kitchen and make myself some coffee. Do you want some too?”

I shake my head. “You go ahead. I’ll go through the rest of the stuff you brought me.”

He nods and strides out of the room before I can even start to thank him.

Turning toward the rest of the bags, I open them one by one.

Seth has bought me more clothes. There are even underwear and shoes in some of the bags. They’re all in varying shades of red and maroon that I absolutely adore.

He’s taken immense care to select the tops and dresses. They’re all long-sleeved to make sure I show minimal skin in them. He has even shopped for the designer labels I usually go for. No one would think I spent the last three months as a captive sex slave when they see me in these clothes.

Seth might be a soldier in the military but I doubt his salary is enough to cover the cost of these expensive clothes. He’s truly gone beyond his duty to protect and care for me.

I hate how much I’ve hurt him despite everything he’s done for me.

It’s barely been a few minutes since he’s left the room but I already miss him. Now that he’s returned home, I want to stay close to him. Ignoring all the shopping bags, I hurry toward the kitchen.

He’s pouring himself a mug of coffee when I enter the room. A glimpse at his forearms shows me more unhealed bite marks.

Omegas gain an unnatural ability to heal from wounds and injuries during their heat. Any bite marks they receive from their alpha heal within hours, turning into silver crescents that adorn their skins. Omegas love to wear them like trophies, flaunting their mated status.
