A sliver of pity flares through me. He needs someone to take care of him too.

“Aah, I’m glad you’re here,” he says, coming over to me. “I almost forgot to give this to you.”

“Oh?”

“Here, you go.” Reaching inside his pocket, he hands me a small package.

Opening the packet, I stare at the small box of an O-pill. They’re contraceptives that omegas use to prevent pregnancy after their heats.

“I almost forgot about this,” I whisper, staring up at him. Tears gather in my eyes as I realize the extent of his kindness. While I forgot about the consequences of my sudden heat, he made sure to save me from any unwanted accident.

“I don’t blame you,” he says with a warm look in his eyes. “You’re still coping with the trauma of being a captive all these weeks.”

Putting his mug down, he grabs a glass and fills it with water. “The box says you have forty-eight hours after your heat subsides but it’s best to take the pill right away. Let’s do this before we both forget and it’s too late.”

A hundred thoughts race through my mind as I open the package and take out the fat pink pill. My heart cracks as I put the tablet in my mouth and drink a mouthful of water.

“It’s going to be okay,” Seth says in a gentle voice as a single tear streams down my cheek. “You’ll put everything behind you and go live a wonderful life.”

“What if I can’t do it?” I ask him desperately.

“You will,” he says in a firm tone. “You’re stronger than you give yourself credit for. You managed to stay away from those awful drugs no matter how much you suffered. I do not doubt that you’ll thrive, Miss Aurora Bailley.”

Draining his coffee, he gives me a small smile and walks to the sink. He has no idea of the effect his words are having on me.

“I’ll go take a shower,” he says casually and walks out of the kitchen.

Don’t youdarefall in love with him!My mind screams at me.Don’t youdaretrust him.

Today’s the day I finally leave for home. While Seth finishes up his breakfast, I start getting ready.

Standing before the mirror in the bathroom, I gaze at my naked reflection. Most of the bruises have faded from my skin even though it’s just been a week since my escape.

An omega can miraculously heal from injuries during her heat. It’s one of the best things about the enhanced hormonal activities we go through during this time.

Our perfume makes the alpha lose all control and most often, their bites can be quite brutal and bloody.

Such bites on the neck can be fatal for a woman, but an omega heals overnight from such injuries. The bloody marks transform into silver scars that omegas wear with pride. After all, they’re the symbol of their union with their cherished alphas.

There are no silvery marks on my skin but I still can’t help checking.

A pang goes through me when I find none. I wish Seth left me withonebite mark at least.

I stare at my silvery eyes that seem too large for my thin face. How can I still be thinking of Seth like that? My heat is over. I shouldn’t be feeling the same pull toward him anymore.

“He’s still a stranger to you,” I tell my reflection.

Taking a deep breath, I stare back at my naked body. The bruises may be gone but my ribs still stick out, making me look skeletal. My boobs look small and shrunken.

The signs of starvation are still starkly visible. Even though I’ve been eating four generous meals a day, I still have a long way to go before I can reach my normal weight.

Heaving a sigh, I pull on the long red maxi dress that Seth bought me. The fit is quite loose, hiding my thin, emaciated body. I spread my dark, wavy strands around my shoulders, further concealing my skeletal collarbones.

Seth was meticulous in his shopping. He even bought me makeup and jewelry to make me look like I was truly coming back from an exotic trip.
