I take a good look around at the thick woods that surround the house while Seth puts the suitcase in the back of his truck.

Before I know it, I’m sitting in the front passenger seat with him beside me.

The truck comes alive with a roar as he steps on the gas. My heart beats hard in my chest as the vehicle starts moving away from the cottage.

I keep my eyes peeled as we drive through the wooded area, finally feeling a jolt of excitement when we reach the main highway.

“Do you want me to play some music?” Seth offers.

“Sure, that’d be nice.”

“Any preferences?”

“Surprise me?”

“All right, then.”

A soothing violin starts playing in the car.

A soldier with a taste for classical music?Seth never fails to amaze me. The tune seems to be his favorite because he’s driving with a serene smile on his beautiful face.

I don’t usually care for classical music but with him beside me, I start to enjoy the mellow tune.

The vehicle picks up speed and soon, we’re rushing along the traffic that’s heading toward Maplewood. I stare out of the car, keeping track of the road signs we pass by.

A part of me is still wary and scared to fully trust Seth. I hate what Jake has done to me. No matter how incredibly kind Seth has been to me, I still can’t fully relax until he’s driven up to my dad’s house in Maplewood.

Excitement spreads through me as Seth finally drives the truck into town. Familiar buildings come into my view, making my dream turn into reality.

“Are you okay?” Seth asks, noticing the change in my expression.

I wipe the tears that stream down my face. “Yeah. It’s just that I’m finally home. I never quite believed I’d be able to return, you know.”

“I’m sorry about everything you went through, Rory,” he says in a low, gentle voice. “Things will get better now. I can promise you that.”

I nod as the GPS guides him along the street that leads to my dad’s house.

Within minutes, I catch a glimpse of the tops of a familiar mansion at the end of the street. There’s a tightness in my throat I can’t get rid of. There was a time I wanted to escape this place so badly, but now, I can’t wait to run through its gate and be home.

I chide my stupid younger self. It was pure foolishness to leave behind the only people who loved me and cared for me all my life. I’d been a selfish and cruel daughter to abandon my dad to be with a shitty alpha like Jake.

Maybe I deserved everything that happened to me, I think for the thousandth time as Seth brings the truck to a stop.

“We’re here,” he announces. “You’re home now, Rory.”

Tears fall down my cheeks. “Tell me this isn’t a dream,” I say, staring at the familiar mansion beyond the tall gates.

“It’s not a dream, Rory. You’re truly home.” Leaning in, he takes off my seatbelt. “Come on. It’s time to go home.”

He climbs out of the truck and I follow him. Going to the back, he brings my suitcase and places it beside me.

The afternoon sunshine shimmers on his dark auburn strands. A reassuring smile lights up his handsome face as he stares down at me. “Can I just say one last thing before I go?”

The idea of him leaving me behind sends an ache through me. I want to tell him not to go but I can’t seem to muster the right words. Swallowing a choke in my throat, I nod.

“Actually, I have two things to say,” he says with a wry smile. “I know you’ve decided to keep the past three months a secret from your family but if you ever feel the need to talk to them, don’t hold back. They can help you deal with the trauma and help you. The only thing you must not do is to mention what happened to the other omegas. They’re still vulnerable. I don’t want the wrong people to get a whiff of their whereabouts while we try to help them.”

“I understand,” I say in a grim tone. “Don’t worry about this stuff. I don’t plan on telling anyone about the hell I’ve been through. The secret about the other women and children will always be safe with me.”
