“What do you think happened between them?”

I shake my head. “I have no idea. He’s been looking like a lost pup since he returned home. I’m sure he went through something awful that he doesn’t want to talk about.”

“I’ve never seen our big brother looking so down,” Simon says, mirroring my anxious thoughts. “He looked like someone stomped on his heart and threw it in the trash.”

I don’t like the sound of that at all. Seth committed a serious misconduct by abandoning his post right after the raid on the Black Widow’s hideout. No matter how many times we asked him, he wouldn’t tell us where he was or what he was doing.

“I can still smell her,” Simon says, breathing deeply.

His words distract me. The smell of ripe peaches permeates my senses, making me inhale deeply.

“Did we just scent-match with Aurora?” Simon asks with an astonished look in his eyes.

Surprise spreads through me as one part of the puzzle falls into place.

Scent-matching with an omega is rare but it’s the only explanation why we’re both affected by Aurora’s scent. Even the use of a de-scenter cannot mask its power over us.

“We’ve had a crush on Aurora since last year,” Simon says, looking amused. “If we hadn’t kept our distance from her, we’d have known sooner that she was our chosen mate.”

Regret washes over me as I remember the instance when we first laid eyes on Aurora for the very first time.

Mayor Bailley commissioned our pack to take care of the security aspects of one of his political events. Aurora had been there, looking like a goddess in a crimson gown.

However, she’d been in the arms of another alpha. No matter how strongly we felt for her, we stopped ourselves from approaching her.

We were raised to be honorable men of a military pack and the one thing that was forbidden to us was to use our power and position to steal another man’s mate. So, we stayed away and watched her from a far distance.

“She was alone, wasn’t she?” Simon asks.

“Yeah.”

“I don’t about know you but I’ve been addicted to her scent since the moment I smelled her on Seth,” he says. “Let’s not miss our opportunity to meet her this time.”

To learn that Aurora is our scent-matched mate drives me wild with desire. The wolf within me howls, urging me to go find her.

“Do you think Aurora rejected Seth?” Simon asks, igniting a new concern in my mind.

“I don’t know but I hope not,” I say, chuckling. “Imagine her agreeing to be our mate and marrying us while he stands in the corner, looking like a sad bear. Who’s going to handle the sulk-master during the wedding and family holidays?”

A deep guffaw escapes my brother. Sliding next to me, he slaps my back hard enough to hurt. “Aren’t you getting a little too ahead of yourself? Aurora didn’t even give me a fucking glance. I felt like I was part of the decoration when she walked past me.”

I cringe internally. Aurora hadn’t “seen” me either. She was so absorbed in the twin lily painting that she walked right into me.

At least, she spoke to me, I tell myself. That’s got to count for something.

“How about we go look for her?” says Simon. “Let’s talk to her and once she’s comfortable with us, we can ask if she knows Seth.”

“Wouldn’t Seth have talked about us if he was close to her?”

“Doyoutalk about Seth with the girls you date?” he asks, raising an eyebrow.

A chuckle escapes me. “I don’t have to. They’re the ones who keep wanting to talk about Seth. I don’t understand why these women get so attracted by the dark, brooding type. Why not be with a guy who’s here to show you a good time?”

Simon laughs at the annoyance on my face. “Come on. Let’s go find her before someone else grabs her attention.”

“I don’t think she’s the type to get distracted by a pretty face.” Aurora was hesitant and nervous when I spoke to her. She seemed interested to talk to me at first but something drove her away, making her hurry out of the room.

Simon glances at me. “How do you know that?”
