“I’ve been meaning to ask you something,” Oliver says, looking suddenly serious.

“Sure. Go ahead.”

“Have you been sick?” He’s quick to catch the change in my expression before I can hide my emotions. “It’s just that you look a little on the scrawny side. You weren’t this skinny when we saw you last year. Not that I mind, obviously. You’re still very beautiful.”

“You could say I was sick,” I say slowly. “The disease lasted over several months but I’m better now.”

Relief spreads through both Simon and Oliver’s faces.

“That’s great,” says Oliver, grinning happily.

“Now, let’s get to the most important part,” says Simon. He rubs his hands as an evil look descends over his handsome face. “How do we surprise Seth?”

Oliver gazes at him and something passes between them.

“Can you pretend to be our girlfriend?” Simon asks, his lips curving into a mischievous grin.

An identical grin blossoms on Oliver’s face.

“What?” I choke with laughter at their silly expressions. “Seth will never believe that.”

“Why not?”

“Because he saw me just the other day,” I tell them. “He’ll never believe I got together with you in the span of a single day.”

“Hey, it’s not that far-fetched,” says Oliver. “We’ll tell him we hooked up at the party last night.”

“Yeah,” Simon agrees. “We’ll show you off as our new girlfriend.”

“I’ll do the talking and you keep the phone ready to record his reaction,” says Oliver.

I listen to them going over the plan to “surprise” Seth. It’s easy to see how much they love to tease their elder brother.

Just thinking of Seth sends a flare of warmth through me. I know I shouldn’t get entangled with him, but the desperate, vulnerable omega in me can’t help it.

I’d expected my emotions to die away with the end of my heat but they’ve only grown stronger. Every moment without him makes me anxious and uneasy.

Our waitress comes back and fills the table with all the incredible dishes we’d ordered earlier.

The pancakes I requested look delicious. They’re covered with a generous slathering of syrup and melted butter. The meal is completed by a mound of scrambled eggs and strips of perfectly crisped bacon on the side.

I breathe in the delicious aroma. My stomach groans, urging me to dive in with my fork and knife.

I reach for a piece of bacon and bite into it. “Mmm,” I moan at the crispy, salty morsel melting on my tongue. “This is simply amazing!” I gush, digging into my food.

For a while, we’re all busy devouring our food. It’s incredible to realize how comfortable I am with the twins. Did we really meet for the first time last night?

“So, Rory,” says Simon, fixing his gaze on me. “What’d you say, Princess? Are you willing to play along with us?”

Mischief dances in both their eyes.

“Fine,” I say, chuckling. “You guys make up whatever story you want. I’m also curious to see whether Seth will believe you guys or not.”

“Ooh, a challenge,” Oliver says, rubbing his hands together.

“Let’s make a bet,” says Simon.

I drink my coffee and listen to their banter. Their silly names for Seth make me giggle from time to time. My desire to see him becomes stronger. I only hope he feels the same way about me too.
