An ache goes through me as I gaze toward the three Burton brothers. Desire spreads through me, gathering into a storm that threatens to shatter me to pieces. I never thought I could trust another alpha again but here I am, hopelessly falling in love with them.

You’re a dirty omega. A whore, a bitter voice whispers in my mind.Seth, Oliver, and Simon deserve a mate who hasn’t been broken and bruised by strangers. You’re tainted. You’re damaged. You’re—

“Enough!” Seth roars, breaking me out of my spiraling thoughts.

Pushing his brothers aside, he strides toward me and pulls me into a hug. “What’s wrong, Rory?” he whispers, caressing my back gently. “Why have you gone so pale? Aren’t you feeling well?”

My fingers grip his shirt as I bury my face in his hard chest. His rosemary scent wafts into my nostrils, soothing me instantly.

“Rory, are you okay?” Simon asks, sounding anxious.

“I shouldn’t have come here,” I say, glancing up at Seth. “Someone like me doesn’t belong in your world.”

His hand comes up to brush away the tears that stream down my face. “What’re you talking about?” he asks in a low, grim voice. “You belong with us, Rory. You’re welcome to stay here if you wish. My brothers and I will always protect you. We’ll never let you feel lonely again.”

“Who knew Seth-bear could be so smooth?” Oliver asks with a surprised chuckle. “You practically asked her to move in with us!”

Simon leans against Seth’s massive frame and gestures at me. “What’d you say, Rory? Want to stick around this mountain of muscle and brawn for a while longer?”

A chuckle bubbles out of my lips. I’m crying and smiling at the same time. Looking back at Seth, I try to read the expression in his intense green eyes.

“Do you seriously want me to stay?” I whisper as my heart pounds with anticipation.

Sincerity shines in his beautiful emerald eyes as he nods.

“What about the rest of your pack?” I ask uncertainly. “Would they welcome someone like me?”

“Someone like you?” Seth says, his eyes burning with such intensity that I have to clutch at my chest to stop my heart from racing too hard. “You’re beautiful and smart, Rory. Our pack would be lucky to have someone like you among us.”

He glances at his wristwatch. “Since it’s lunchtime, we can go to the house for some food. Our dads won’t be around but you can meet our mother and grandfather.”

“Rory makes a man out of our Seth-bear,” Simon says, grinning widely. “If only he had a fraction of the social skills you bring out in him during his other interactions.”

“Yeah,” Oliver agrees with a serious nod. “He could’ve dominated the world and made mac-and-cheese the national food of the country.”

“Would you dickheads shut up?” Seth mutters.

The twins guffaw loudly at the annoyance on his face.

Stepping forward, Seth wraps an arm around my shoulders. “Come on. Let’s go.”

Pleasure spreads through me as Simon and Oliver gather around us. Together, we step outside the room and walk down the hallways of the vast admin building.

The office workers as well as the military officials stare at me with curiosity and interest. Seth’s presence beside me keeps my anxiety at bay, allowing me to keep walking without getting intimidated. Simon and Oliver’s nonstop chatter also helps take my mind off the negative thoughts that keep springing into my mind.

Bright afternoon sunshine pours down on us as we step outside.

Together, we cross the green fields that separate the admin building from the residential manor in the distance. Soldiers in maroon uniforms dot the lush surroundings of the estate. They salute and greet Seth and his brothers each time they come near us.

I had no idea Seth belonged to such an esteemed military pack.

It was Simon and Oliver who explained that their family was the leader of the Burton Pack and that they were direct descendants of the numerous martyrs who sacrificed their lives to create the society we live in today.

“Did you know I thought of you as a common soldier in the Burton Pack?” I ask as we walk together. “All the things you bought me made me feel so guilty. I thought you’d go into debt because of me.”

A gentle smile lights up his beautiful face. “I wanted to tell you about me but you didn’t want to hear my lies,” he replies. “It’s all right, though,” he adds, taking my hand in his. “You’re here now. I have all the time in the world to tell you everything about me and my family.”

I notice how the twins keep observing us. They still have no idea how Seth and I got to be so close. A part of me wonders whether they’d still like me if they knew I was a sex slave in the hands of the Black Widow.
