“Come here, child,” the elderly man says, gesturing me to come to the table.

The stranger must be in his late eighties or early nineties. Heavy wrinkles line his aged face while wisps of thin, white hair cover his head. I’d call him a frail old man but the sharp intensity in his green eyes tells me he’s still a very fierce alpha.

“What’s your name, Child?” he asks.

“I’m Aurora but you can call me Rory.”

“Hello, Rory. I’m Charlie,” he says, extending his hand toward me.

Moving closer, I take his hand and gently shake it.

“Come, sit beside me,” he says, pulling out the chair beside him.

“Thanks,” I say gratefully and sink into the chair.

“Help yourself to whatever you like,” Valerie says from the other side of the table.

“We’ll fill up a plate for you,” Simon offers instantly.

Oliver grabs a plate and starts filling it with salad and pasta.

“I’ve never seen the pair being so head-over-heels for a woman,” Charlie says, his green eyes shining. This close to him, I can see how similar they are to Seth’s. “Tell me, Rory. What do you think of my eldest grandson? He’s not as loud as the twins but he’s a good man. He’ll make an excellent mate too.”

My cheeks heat up at once.

“Grandpa, stop,” Seth groans. “This is her first time here. Let’s not scare her away.”

A sharp pain pierces my heart. Does Seth still think I hate and mistrust him?

“I like Seth the most,” I say boldly, despite blushing like the rising sun.

Everyone at the table comes to a halt. My cheeks grow warmer as I feel their gazes on me.

“Stop staring at her,” Seth mumbles, grabbing the plate of food from Oliver. He sets it before me and gives me a quick smile before glaring at his brothers. “Stop making her feel uncomfortable and let her eat in peace.”

The twins settle down and start grabbing whatever they can lay their hands on.

“We have company,” Valerie says, looking at her unruly sons helplessly. “Behave like we bothered teaching yousomemanners.”

“Oh, she likes us this way,” Simon says, his mouthful of bread and pasta. “Don’t you, Rory?”

A nervous chuckle escapes me as I nod.

The twins keep acting silly, making their grandpa laugh like a little boy. Seth shakes his head a lot and sighs while Valerie stays busy serving food to everyone at the table.

Warmth washes over me as I soak in the atmosphere around me. This is the kind of pack every omega dreams of. Desire bursts through me, making me want to truly believe that the twins want me as their girlfriend.

They’re just being funny and kind, I remind myself. They’ll never look at you the same way if they knew about the vile men who touched you, tainted you, and broke you.

Our lunch ends with generous portions of warm brownies and ice cream.

“You should come over for lunch more often,” Charlie whispers in my ear. “They let me eat dessert only when guests are around.”

An amused chuckle escapes me as the sweet, old man winks at me.
