Whoa. Okay.

It was my turn for the mouth-opening and falling reaction.

"W–what?"

"Okay. I'll try to word this a bit better. We all like you, Junie," he replied, avoiding my gaze.

"And if you'd let us, we all want you to be part of our lives. Protect you. Make you laugh. The works."

Was I supposed to feel outraged or totally happy that these three gorgeous men all wanted to become part of my life?

Because I felt pretty darn great, but I wasn't sure that was thenorm.

"I—"

His phone interrupted us, and he took one look at the ID of the caller and hastily turned to the door. "Give me a minute, Juniper. I have to take this."

I was glad to give him more than a minute.

Reed went to the balcony to take his call. I heard a faint name—it sounded a lot likeNeptune, but that was a very odd name to have, so I decided I'd begun hallucinating.

I thought about the three men once more. Each of them was different.

Reed was all tall and brave, and he had this intense, dark aura to him. Plus, his aquamarine gaze was enough to make me lose my senses all at once.

Miguel made me laugh. His easy charms aside, he really looked like he knew how to have a good time without getting obnoxious.

And Asher—he just seemed like one of those men who could always be around to listen and make life a little easier.

The icing on the cake was that they were all hot enough to make a sinner drip buckets of sweat in church.

I had to give it to myself for my descriptive streak at times.

But seriously—they were all well-built, with just the right amount of muscle. Miguel looked like an Aztec warrior. Asher could star in a Tarantino film. And Reed... the only adjective I could find for him was delicious.

A year ago, I'd decided I was old enough to live life on my own terms. I was making my own money, I'd long since given up on the idea of love, and I knew people around would gossip no matterwhatI did.

So why would I need to live per their rules when I could have so much fun on my own terms?

My thoughts were interrupted by the faint thud of Reed's feet across the floorboard.

"The boys are really annoyed I'm here having dinner with you, and they don't have anything in the house except leftovers."

I beckoned him over with my finger. When he was close enough, I leaned close and kissed him.

"Did you mean what you asked? About the others?"

His reply was husky. "Yeah. I did."

"Call them over, then."

Juniper

My breath caught in my throat the second Asher and Miguel knocked on the front door. I told Reed to let them in.

The room's energy was already different. Reed put on some music. Willie Dixon's raw, rugged, and utterly soulful voice took over the space. It was smooth as whiskey, the kind that warmed your soul and set your heart on fire.
